My grandmother decided to get the roof at her house done. Mind you the roof is a flat roof. Anywho the roof has on and off leaks so she decided to pay a company 3,000$ to get it fixed. (She asked how much the insurance would pay and they wouldnt pay much at all to get it fixed GRRR) I had no idea when the repair was going on otherwise I would have told her NOT to pay them the full amount until she is sure the job was done right. TOO LATE she paid them the full amount after the down payment without having someone check the work. Anyway come to find out they only fixed the leaking area and nothing else. Did a cheap quick fix. She does not have enough money to sue them and apparently her daughters have tried to call these people and have not gotten a response or a call back. What should/can I do? I mean we are not talking 100$, its 3,000$ and I dont think this is right AT ALL! Any suggestions? I have yet to call and plan on doing so ASAP just needed input or suggestions before I do so.
Sounds like a con job roofer....preying on older people.
Even if you contact a lawyer to draw up a letter for you.....you will be advised to go through the Better Business Bureau route.
We had to do this with the first house we built. It is a pain but it does help.
Contact the BBB and take those necessary steps.
It certainly appears that that took advantage of your grandmother. When you mentioned $3000 I thought that was a complete replacement vs a patch.
This company needs to be reported. If necessary, and if you have the documentation and pictures for proof.....I just might call the local news stations and let them know. They often report on SCAMS and the media can get the name of this company out in the public so that someone else might not have this issue.
I'm sorry this happened....best wishes to you.
There is usually a "free" legal day at the local senior's center in the same city or county that your grandmother lives in. You might have to take your grandmother or perhaps one of her daughters could take her, but the attorneys would be able to tell you what to do! Good luck. I hate when people are taken advantage of!
You could try to get some of the money back thru small claims court.
