My daughter is already showing several signs of wanting to potty train. Apparently I was trained by 18 months and a friends daughter started about the same time and she is potty trained so I know its not impossible. Both our doctor and our Parents As Teachers educator have encouraged me to start potty training her but not to push her. We've gotten the potty seat and she loves to sit on it. I'm about out of diapers and plan to transition to Pull-Ups but I don't know if there is a big difference between the brands like there seams to be with diapers. We've been using Huggies diapers...does it matter which training pants we use?
IF you want an honest opinion, don't use pull-ups at all. They are a pain to change, not to mention expensive. I just recently used the 3-day potty training guide with my 2 year old. WE ARE COMPLETELY POTTY TRAINED!! You can read about it on 3daypottytraining.com. Or, just google it. I have it saved on my computer and will be happy to email it to you! I am SO happy I used it!

Hi Camille:
I wouldn't use pull ups either or anything other types that are like it. They are just like diapers if you ask me. When we started to potty train my oldest we did us pull up and notice that she could care less. Once we made the switch to big girls panies it was really easy to teach her how to use the potty because she didn't like the wet feeling all all.
I do agree with this :" Both our doctor and our Parents As Teachers educator have encouraged me to start potty training her but not to push her." because you don't want to discourage your child from using the potty or being afraid of the potty..
My kids are all WELL out of diapers, my youngest is 11, and as an "old-schooler" I feel that the old fashioned training pants work the best. My mom used them on all 11 of us and swears that you can potty train a kid in a week if they are ready, just by putting them in training pants and if they wet them, they are uncomfortable, (kind of negative reinforcement.)so they try not to wet them again. Pull-ups are like disposable diapers, the urine stays warm, does not break down to uric acid, and doesn't get uncomfortable, which is desireable when a child is an infant, not so great if they are 3!
I also vote for "no pull-ups." They are more expensive than diapers, don't hold as well and my kids used them just like diapers. However, they were helpful once they were wearing underwear and we were traveling or in some other situation where we couldn't count on a convenient bathroom. Otherwise, my 3 kids never noticed a difference between pull-ups and diapers.
I agree with the other posts too. We tried a package of pull-ups and my daughter couldn't tell the difference between that and a diaper. Going straight to big girl panties did the trick. A few accidents is what it takes to realize being wet doesn't feel so good.
The question you are asking is if there is a difference in pull-up training pants...yes there is, but I've not seen a big difference other than in price. I have four kids ages 5, 8, 14, and 16... I agree that not using pull-up's can be better, BUT it depends on your child and your schedule. My oldest trained in a few days at about 16 months old...even night-time...no pull-ups, but my youngest two weren't that easy...I ended up using pull-up when we went somewhere and at night. It's all about what works for you and your child. Good luck.
We use Huggies pull ups also. Our 3 year old grandson wears big boy underwear during the time he is up. A pull up at nap & bedtime. If you can get her some pretty little girl panties she will love it, tell her she learning to be a big girl now and can peepee in the potty. The Poopy in the potty will come later. ;) We are just now getting there, 5 days in a row and he is so excited he gets ^5's and big hugs when mom & dad get home from work. He used to poopy at nap time only in his pull up.
One thing he doesn't like is the pull ups that look like Boxer shorts, they itch & scratch him.
Good Luck and relax it will happen and she will be excited to be a really big girl when it does.

when she uses the potty chair, reward her with the pull ups and tell her they are big girl pants and she only can wear them when she uses the potty chair. She will love it. If she has an occasional mess up, don't scold her, just put the other one back on her and explain to her she will eventually get it by paying close attention to her body feelings and to go when she first needs to and not wait too long. Good luck, I had my son potty trained by 18 months old.
Camille, You won't find much difference in the disposable pants brands. Your daughter may not find much difference between the pants and the diaper. I've found that to truly potty train you have to "just do it" and put them in real pants.
Good Luck. Michelle
Hello,
there is a diffrence between pull up brands. i found that huggie pull ups are the easist expecily when you are out and about. the reason i found them better then pampers is because huggies has reselable sides. this comes in very handy if they have an accedent and you need to change it and put a new one one because you dont have to take the pants shoes and socks off in order to put a new one on. with pampers you have to take pants and shoes off in order to put a new pullup on. also huggies are cheeper then pampers.
using pull ups in the begining help to teach my daughter how to pull the pants up and down. but in order for her to stop going potty completly in her paints i had to go to regular underwear during the day and pull ups at night. and then i faded out the pull ups at night.
i hope this information helps out.

One of my children fit well with the White Cloud brand and they didn't leak. The other pull ups are the only ones that worked for him. I have both boys, the first was and is very slender, the second, while still not chubby has more curves. THis may be the difference. I don't know. Everyone I know has used pull ups tried others and went back to pull ups. Good luck.
Pull-ups are great, but begin to get expensive. We use the Target Brand training pants and they worked great. I have also heard that the white cloud training pants are also good. So I think it is personal preference for you, but as far as more cost effective the target brand or white cloud would make your money go further.
I Use cloth training pants. Like real underwear but is thicker and vinyl on the outside. And you are able to find them to fit better. Especially her being only 18 months. You will save money. This way they think that they are really wearing big boy or girl underwear. Pull ups are still to much like a diaper. Both my sons were potty train at 20 months. You can find cloth training pants and Babiesrus or Walmart. Also Gerber send my this links:

I hope this help.
I would suggest buying the 5 layer underwear as opposed to the pullups....pullups get expensive, and because they hold the urine the child really feels no difference than in a diaper. The 5 layer panties are cloth, so are washable, and you can put plastic covers over them. Children need to feel wet so they learn how to listen to what their bodies are telling them...I would also suggest not putting anything over her bum while at home (let her run around in just a little dress or shirt that covers her bum) and ask her every 5 min or so 'Do you have to go potty? Lets go see!!"...Good Luck!
~Angel~ (SAHM of 6 going on 7 and have potty trained this way with all of them except my 10 month old)
I definately recommend getting the pull ups that have the velcro sides. I used Huggies Pull up Training pants with the learning design. The design fades away when they are wet. having the velcro sides makes it much easier for changing. With the others you have to take all their clothes off to put a new one on. These go on like a diaper. However, you may want to try using regular "Big Girl Panties and let her get the feel of what it is like to be wet and try that method first and use the pull ups only at night. My daughter started using the pull ups as security. I would put her on the toilet she wouldn't go but as soon as I put the pull up on 5 minutes later she would be wet. I wish I would have done the regular panties much sooner it would have saved me a ton of $ because pull ups are expensive.--Good Luck Janet C
Switching to a pull-up won't feel any different to your daughter then a diaper. They still keep them dry an don't give them the sensation they are wet. Big companies make you think they are the next step to potty training, but they really only slow the process down.
My daughter started about the same time I had good luck with the White Cloud (cheaper and you will go through a lot of them starting out) they are a little harder to pull up and down by themselves but this age you are just trying to get them to stay dry because that is a pretty big concept in itself. For sleeping I use the actual pull ups now so she can pull them up and down with ease. Hope this helped! Kim
I never used pull-ups. I went straight to training pants and used the vinyl pants over them. Because pull up-s feel the same as a diaper if she has an accident it can become confusing if she thinks she's wearing "big girl pants". I do not recommend pull-ups!
Pull-ups are so expensive-my daughter was also potty trained at 18 months and she is 11 now and they didn't have pull-ups then. Just put her in underwear during the day and a diaper at night. My daughter had it down in 3 days and only had a couple of accidents. If she is ready then you shouldn't have any trouble with panties. Let her pick them out so she will want to wear them even more. Good luck
