Activities that combine movement with direction-following help build attention and flexibility.
This is such a fascinating and important discussion! It’s incredible how movement and cognitive development are so deeply intertwined from infancy onward. The research on executive functions and the role of physical activity in brain development really highlights why active play is more than just fun—it’s foundational for learning and problem-solving.
I love the emphasis on practical ways parents can incorporate movement into daily routines, from tummy time for infants to team sports for older kids. It’s also interesting to see how aerobic exercise not only improves executive functions but also directly impacts academic performance.
For parents who might struggle to get their kids moving (especially in an age of screens), what are some creative ways to encourage physical activity indoors during colder months? Would love to hear how other parents keep their little ones engaged in movement when outdoor play isn’t always an option!
@emonbhuiyan Thank you for chiming in. I have been waiting for some feedback on the articles and whether or not they were relevant to the mamapedia audience. Outdoor physical activity is best but if stuck indoors because of bad weather, jumping jacks, push ups, and other indoor calisthenics are always a good option. Another fun activity is a treasure hunt where objects are hidden around the house and each child has to find them. Great idea to get others to post their indoor movement activities!
