WANTED: cupcakes in San Diego

Hi Ladies!!
I am planning a 1st birthday party, and want to have cupcakes instead of cake. I am amazed that I cannot find a cupcake bakery in town!! ( and I don't have time to make the amount that I need ) Anyone have any suggestions?? I would appreciate it so much!! Thanks!!

Tessa,

Go to VG's Donuts in Cardiff. They have amazing cakes and delish cupcakes too. They usually have some on hand so you can try one on the spot. I don't know how much variety they offer-I think just pretty basic chocolate or vanilla with buttercream icing but very very good. I've had cupckaes from other places in town that were more decorative but didn't taste half as good. They do beautiful cakes too and when you order a cake for a first birthday, they give you a complimentary smash cake. If you change your mind and decide to go with a cake, definitely get the chocolate bavarian filling. It is beyond yummy.

I don't know how many you want to have made, but I saw this once done for a wedding. They tiered the cupcakes so that it looked like a 4 tier wedding cake. You might want to do something like that with your child's cupcakes...just a suggestion! :D

Hi Tessa,
You can go to either Vons or Albertsons. They are now doing cupcake cakes. Really cute. They also give you a smash cake. Have a wonderful day!!

There is a cute little bakery in Lemon Grove by the lemon. It's called the Grove Pastry Shop. But it used to be called Lemon Grove Bakery or something. It's at 3308 Main St
Lemon Grove. It has the most WONDERFUL cupcakes in the WORLD OMG. And they're very well known for their whipped cream cake. mmmmm....

Michelle Coulon Dessertier, in La Jolla- they make the BEST cupcake cakes. Maybe a little more priceier than others but the MOST beautiful. 858-456-5098 They also have a website.

Ralphs always has cute cupcakes and 2 weeks ago I saw at Costco in Mission Valley. You could also try
Heavenly Desserts on University and 30th. There's also a great dessert place off Chatsworth and Voltaire in PL. Good luck!

I second the vote for VG's in Cardiff! They're prices are beyond reasonable and cake is ridiculously delicious. We got our wedding cake there and my best friend used them for cupcakes for her children's birthday parties - they're excellent!

Ralphs and Vons both do cupcakes and cupcake "cakes" - don't know how good they are, though. And Costco just recently started offering cupcakes - they are big ones, like the muffins, but delicious!!

Try Albertsons, Vons or Ralphs..

Go to Albertsons. They make these cupcake cakes. They put the cupcakes together to make a design and frost the entire cake. It looks like a cake but then you can pull the cupcakes apart. We did that for my sons b-day (we also live in San Diego) and he had a bat and home plate cupcake cake. Have Fun!!

The Cookie Lady in La Jolla makes fantastic cupcakes..although you may want to order smaller versions because hers are rather large.

Also, there is a woman in Newport Beach who makes amazing...and beautiful cupcakes. The name of her business is Five Sweets and she will deliver to SD. I don't have her number any longer, but I am sure you can google her.

Good Luck!

Hi Tessa -
I gave a good friend, who just became a Mommy herself, who has her own cookie and cupcake business and they are DELICIOUS. Her website is :

Hope it works out.

I think you can get them at any grocery store, like Vons or Albertsons.

Albertson's has cupcakes. Also www.beaucoupcupcakes.com does pull apart cakes (cupcakes) as well.

I know Albertson's does "cupcake cakes" and I think they also give a free cake just for 1 year olds to destroy! There is a great bakery in Cardiff calls DG's that is yummy as well!

There's plenty of cupcakes at Vons. I think you can order them too if you want them special. Mother of three.

I've found other than making them myself...Sam's Club has a great selection in their fresh bakery section and the price can't be beat. Hope that helps.

Yes!! Ralph's grocery store, makes them to order and decently priced. And they are yummy. Used them for last 3 parties. You can also request them not to be frosted if you dare to let the kids decorate their own. Have fun! Local San Diegan Mom of 3

Hi Tessa,

Vons bakery does a super job of doing b-day cupcakes. They make them now so that they look like a cake but pull apart as cupccakes. I've had Miltons do the same thing for much more and Vons does a much better job. Hope that helps!
