My husband and I have been to NYC several times, but never with children. We will have our 2-year old with us. We plan to stay in the city, but I don't want to drive from the airport. I'm looking for advice on the best ways to get to and from the airport and the city. We will probably be staying somewhere in Manhattan. My concern about cabs or towncars is the lack of a car seat. My assumption is that we may need to take an airport shuttle to and from the airport, but there aren't car seats in those either. I think we are going to fly into La Guardia and I can't remember if the subway goes there. I don't think it does. Also, are strollers a hassle on the subway system? Any other thoughts about NYC w/ a toddler would be much appreciated!
NYC cabs are exempt from carseat laws, but it still terrifies me not to have DD in a carseat. Do you have to fly into LGA? JFK and EWR are both easily accessible by train, so I'd lean towards one of them, if you have the choice (I know, by myself I'd never go to Newark on purpose, but New Jersey transit stops on-airport, and it's only a 20 minute ride to Manhattan, so you never have to be in an automobile of any sort without a carseat). You should be fine on the subway with a stroller if you avoid rush hour, although allow some extra time to locate the elevators when necessary, or get used to DH in front, you in back, perching the stroller on an escalator (nervewracking, but doable). There are so many great things to do in the city with little kids! Have fun!
the no carseat thing in a cab scares me too, I have no advice there!
but, for the stroller, could you maybe just take an easy to break down and very thin umbrella stroller? That may help since they are more lightweight and can fold down quick and easy on the subway
