anyone have experience with south beach diet? I really mean Phase 1. I just have a few pounds to lose. I already work out 5-6 days a week am eat sensibly. However I find that I easily pack on pounds if I eat too many high-glycemic foods which I've been doing lately. That's why SBD attracts me a lot.
I was able to lose 9 pounds on the south beach diet just on phase 2. I couldn't do phase 1, it made my blood sugar too low and i felt bad. It's a great diet and really just teaches how to eat. Good Luck!
First time I tried it I lost 15 lbs and the second time I lost 25 lbs on SBD. I did the phase 1 for 6 weeks and then very slowly started adding foods allowed in phase 2. Problem is that it was impossible for me to live by the SBD rules, I don't really eat junk food, but bread is my weakness. When I went back to normal eating, having a couple of beers here and there and just eating normal, I ended up 20 lbs heavier then I was before starting SBD. So, it works, but once you get off of it, you'll gain it back and then some....
The south beach diet is really great and makes a lot of sense. I lost tons of weight (I forget how much) when I did it a few years ago. But, you really need to treat it as a lifestyle and not just a diet. If you really stick to the "rules" and eat what you are supposed to, it really works. Just remember that you should watch your portion sizes as well. I would be doing the south beach thing right now, except I decided to go Vegan instead (no eggs, dairy or meat). I lost 20 pounds doing this, and the weight has just stayed off. Good luck!
I've had 2 friends follow it very faithfully for the first phase and lose a lot of weight. Seems hard to stay on long term, but it really jump-started their process and made them aware of what has lots of carbs, etc. even when they went back to eating more normally. Seems like a good thing to try for a couple of weeks.
I know you've already responded, but here's a little extra info. We began this for my husband when I was nursing. He lost weight and I ended up losing some too (unintentionally, but it was fine with me-10 lbs).
Years later when I got pregnant again my cooking/energy/etc. went down the hill and we're having to start over now, but that's how it is with all diets.
Glad you have a good perspective on it, it is work, but it works if you do it.
Also, I love the cookbooks. Some of our favorites from the main book are Tomato Soup and Balsamic Chicken (both work in the crock pot).
Good luck!
I have never done it but have heard from others that it takes a LOT of discipline and patience. With my second child, I had GD and went on a low sugar diet. I maintained those eating habits after he was born and the weight came off easily.
As for the exercise, I am an aerobics instructor and am curious as to what you are doing. Maybe adjusting intensity and variety might help.
wow it sounds like it did well for all of you. I realize it’s a lifestyle change but I’m already living a changed lifestyle since I began my weight loss journey 2 years ago. I really like how of teaches me what foods are bad – something I intend to follow closer from now on!! I’ll keep you posted how it goes!
