Hi Moms,
My husband and I have had Blue Cross Blue shield for the last 10 years.
The premiums are CRAZY I pay $1300 a month for our family. 4 children 2 adults. FYI no premiums have to be paid for any children after the 2. I have maternity and drug coverage and a $1500 deductable. I've already increased the deductable. I'm thinking I need to look at another company.
Any companies you have been happy with price and coverage? The upside is we are all very healthy!!! Only see the doctor for well checks! My pediatricain only knows me from seeing me often when they are babies! I am completly on the wellness prevention boat! However...
that's why we all have the insurance is for those unforseen things in the future! I did look at the HSA- Still does not look like a good option because if you do have an illness or need meds you pay the full amount untill you reach the deductable....Any suggestions from those of you that are self employeed would be GREAT! Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Hi Denise-
My husband is self employed also so we have individual health insurance with BCBS for him and our girls. I have insurance through my work but it would be about what you pay a month for our whole family to be on my insurance through work. The plan we picked last year was the BCBS Select Choice PPO which our doctors were in and it has a $1000 deductible then 80/20 coverage. The premium every 2 months was a little under $600. They did inform us they were going to be increasing this year by about $100 every 2 months so we have been looking at other plans. Our health sounds the same as yours-mostly preventative. I feel like they should be able to do something better for you. I know you have one other adult on your plan but it is crazy how much more it is costing you for that.
Have you looked at the Blue Value plans etc. The HSA might not be a bad idea when you look at how much you pay out of pocket per year for premiums compared to how much you use it. Yes, if you have a situation happen that you have to use it it may hit you at that time but some doctors/hospitals will set you up on a payment plan to pay the balance if it were to be more than you could do at that time.
If you are looking at other private insurers, I would stay away from Humana from my experience with them working at a doctors office. I had a personal plan with Assurant Health that was not bad as far as premiums. I don't know if I ever used it for anything(only had it for 9 months.) but it was not bad. Good Luck- I know it is a stressful process.
