I have been diagnosed with PCOS and my doctor in Illinois recommended Infertility treatment. By then we were all set to move to San Jose so we thought we will start it once we settle in here.My doc obviously didnt know much about the options available here but gave me two names: Fertility Physicians of Northern California and Stanford Fertility & Reproductive Medicine Center.
Does anyone have any prior experience with this or have any recommendations, tips etc. Please feel free to mail me direct. Also, would these clinics give a Financial projection of how much this would cost as our insurance would not pick up 100% of the costs. And times being what they are, we would obviously want to keep costs down and any cost effective options
would be extremely appreciated.
I would also appreciate any links / information out there that are specific to this topic.
Dr. Don Adamson comes highly recommended. He works from two offices: one near Stanford and one near Good Samaritan. I was already working with Drs. at Stanford when he was recommended to me and I stayed there because they were the only ones doing 3-day (versus 5-day) embryos at the time. It's pretty common practice now. Make sure you choose an office close to where you are during the day. It sucked when I got laid off mid-treatment and had to commute to Palo Alto from home. All financial considerations were laid out for us in advance, so it was easy to budget. Our IVF meds were covered under out medication coverage even though IVF was not covered. Keep that in mind. Check into support groups as were. Infertility treatment is pretty emotional and isolating. It helps to go through it with someone who's been there. RESOLVE of Northern California has tons of resources (including an advice nurse line and seminars). You can google their website. I send all my friends and patients to them first.
We conceived both our children with the help of Fertility Physicians of Northern CA. We were always treated with kindness, intelligence, and respect. I highly recommend them. They were worth the cost our insurance did not cover in our opinion.
I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Contro. He's located in Los Gatos right near Good Sam hospital. He's an infertillity specialist and he and his entire staff were great to work with for both of my pregnancies. I've never met a doctor with such a great bedside manner as Dr. Contro. I went to see him after my 3rd miscarriage. He even made one of my D and C's extremely pleasant - he told me he would be there to hold my hand before I went under and he was - it was so caring that it made me tear up with good emotions. He's a fantastic surgeon as well, and his c-sections (if you end up being like me and have to have one) are works of art. Anyway, I could go on and on about him and his office. Here's his info:

Jane, I have to second the recommendation for Dr. Michael Contro. I went to him after having 2 m/c (after a successful 1st pregnancy) and he had me confident after our first meeting that he would see me through a successful pregnancy. He and his office staff are WONDERFUL and I looked forward to every appt.
I was pg within a few months of starting treatment with him and had a successful twin pregnancy--that went to 37 weeks! I also had a c-section with him and he truly does wonders when he closes you up!!!
My friend with PCOS successfully had a baby after 2 rounds of IVF. She saw Dr. Zouves...he is pretty well known. From what I understand...the best around. http://www.goivf.com
I went to Dr. Sgarlata in Los Gatos, Ca. He is affiliated with Reproductive Science Center. I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility and got pregnant my first round of IVF. http://www.rscbayarea.com. Last time I checked they were less expensive than Dr. Zouves.
I would highly recommend either facility. Good luck.
I had an awesome experience with NOVA IVF in Palo Alto. The odds were against me - 42 years old; they stop using your own eggs at 43. We were successful on our second round and now have beautifil 13 month old boy/girl twins. Everyone at NOVA was awesome - kind, compassionate, caring. I never felt uncomfortable with either Dr. Schmidt or Dr. Polansky, nor any of the staff there. Anytime I had questions - and I had many - they went out of their way to get back to me immediately with an answer. If I remember correctly, too, they do give you a price breakdown at their orientation. Go to their sire at www.novaivf.com and you can see when their informational meeting is. Good luck! It is so worth it!
Have you considered accredited infertility clinics outside the U.S.? Certain infertility clincs boast high success rates (above 50%) and offer high quality treatments that cost 40-50 percent less than those in the U.S.
If you are interested, send me an email to [email protected], and i will be delighted to provide you with additional information.
