Hello all! I really need some help/advice here. I started a new position in the middle of October. I have moved up rather quickly, received a $5,000.00 raise about 1 month ago, have emails from the owner and head of HR about what a great job I have been doing and how great my work is.
It is a smaller company (maybe 8 employees total) and I believe they are in a little bit of financial stress. About 2 weeks after I received my raise we were notified that we would all be receiving paper checks instead of direct deposit because there were 300K in outstanding invoices and we recently had to credit a client 65K...I am assuming they needed the interest accrued for the few extra days the money was in the bank?
A week and a half ago I spent 5 days out of work, with a doctor's note, because I had an allergic reaction to a medication I was taking...I had to go to the hospital and got a shot of epenephrin (sp?), benadryl, adavan and larazapan (sp?) because my reaction was so severe. During those 5 days I sent 3 emails and made 4 phone calls to my office to keep them updated. I foudn out last week that I was being fired. The first reason I got was because I did not communicate well enough while I was out, the second reason I got was because I was out for 5 days in December and my termination letter said it was because "during this 90 day trial period we have decided that we need to pursue other options for this role".
I honestly don't know if I have a case for "wrongful termination" because I was within my first 90 days...but after receiving such a large raise and praise from so many people in the company I can't see how this is "right".
Not to mention, the lady that does our payroll "forgot" to take out my deductions for medical insurance a few weeks ago and I have been paying that back every check...so I will not be getting any part of my last paycheck.
Lastly, when I first started I was given a laptop and blackberry. I was told I could cancel my personal cell phone and use my blackberry as my personal phone as well. Thankfully, I did not do that. However, I did transfer all of my phone numbers from my phone to my blackberry. I also had alot of personal emails, as well as all of the emails about my raise and the great job I was doing. When I was fired my access to outlook was blocked, so I was also not able to retrieve any of those emails or my personal contacts. I have asked several times to receive that information but have been told that they will not give me any of the emails or my personal contacts until they receive the laptop and blackberry back. Can they do that?
Anywho - if anyone has any advice on if I have a case, who to contact if I do have a case, and if anyone knows of anyone hiring immediately.
Thank you all in advance!
