Has anyone tried the P90X program? Did it work for you? What other equipment do you need?
We have the P90X and are about to start it. You will want to get either some bands or a pull up bar. I think that is all you really need that you might not have laying around the house. Other than that you just need a chair and a mat...Good luck...everyone i've talked to who has started has either nearly died lol or quit after a week...
You need to be in pretty awesome shape to get into this one. P90X is for the very physically fit, if that's you, go for it.
If you aren't, start with the BeachBody or Slim in 6 which is made by the same company but is for beginners.
Any of these programs work if you do what they tell you. It also comes with a meal plan designed for you whether you want to shred fat, bulk up, etc.

He uses weights, bands, yoga mat and an optional pull up bar.

It's intense, no special equipment, weights and a ball is all, and about 45 minutes 3 or 4 times a week.
I did it, and it does work if you stick to it. You have to follow the meal plan, and you have to push play every day. Even if you absolutely don't feel like working out, put one of the programs in and start it. You'll find yourself still getting a good workout.
The exercise program is tough, but there are modifications for people who aren't able to do all the exercises. It'll kick your butt the first two-three weeks, but then you'll find yourself able to do exercises you never thought you'd be able to do!
You need hand weights, and that's really about it. It's helpful to have either a pull-up bar (one that fits in your door frame) or bands to replace it. However, we didn't have either and just replaced the pull-up exercises with back exercises using the hand weights.
If you stick with it, it works. However, if you get off the program, you need some sort of plan to ensure you don't go back to your old ways and undo all the good you did for three months!

The Kenpo portion is awesome. I burned so much fat on that one I got back to my pre-baby weight by 2 months postpartum.(I had gained 50 lbs during pregnancy LOL) It kicks your butt but that's the point. p90x in my opinion is a workout program that really pushes you but slowly you will get better and better. Not much equip needed I just remember using hand weights and resistance band. Also there is a beachbody website that assigns a (graduated) workout buddy to you for support and to answer any questions for free about nutrition, the exercises, how to make the most of your workouts, etc. Good Luck
My husband has used P90X for three years and it is an awesome workout and a great way to stay in excellent shape....if you really do it. It is hard work, but it is not complicated, you just have to do it. I have started doing it and it is great! You only need a few free weights and/or resistance bands and it is good to have somewhere you can do chin-ups (but that is not that often)
We bought ours from Beachbody, but you should look on Ebay if you decide to get it...and save $$$. Apparently, lots of people couldn't stick with it.
I say GO FOR IT!
I bought it off Craigslist, but couldn't find the hour to hour and a half per day to devote to it with a little one. The week that I did it kicked my butt, and I would love to do the whole 90 days, but I realized that I would rather spend my time with my daughter instead of working out. I do have friends that swear by it... I just couldn't find that much "extra" time in my day.

My husband, who is a hockey player and natural athlete, got this program. It is VERY intense which makes it effective if you stick with it. The challenge is that because it's so hard, some people may find it difficult to motivate themselves to do it. He was into it for a while; now it's sitting on our shelf. If you're pregnant, I would recommend doing something less intense since you don't want to raise your heart rate too high. The baby doesn't have any ability to cool down by sweating, like the mama does.

I would not do it unless you check with your doctor first if you were thinking of doing it while you are pregnant. It is a very intense workout. My husband has done the P90X off and on for a couple of years now. He got my son doing some of the exercises as well, especially during baseball season to work up his core muscles. They do have several people on there showing you different ways to do the excercises based on how hard or easy you want to do it. However, seeing some of those excercises and how long you have to do them, most are an hour, I'd still check with your doctor first. Now after the baby, if you can find the time, it would really get you back in shape! Like the previous moms said, it will literally kick your butt and you will not be able to move that first week! My husband said that he couldn't believe the muscles that were so sore! But if you stick with it, you WILL see results! Oh and you only need a couple of weights, a chair, maybe a mat if you want one, and maybe some of those resistance bands if you don't have a place for some of the pull ups.

I definitely wouldn't do this program while pregnant. I consider myself to be a pretty physically fit person (definitely not a whiner) and I was whimpering after two weeks of this program. My body just never seemed to get a chance to heal and I'm not kidding, I could barely walk during those two weeks. I believe it is a good program, just too much for me, but I would NEVER do it while I was pregnant. Even the yoga section - which I consider to be the "tamest" section - might be dangerous during pregnancy.
I have done the program...the "Lean" version and saw great results. I took a break and decided to start up again doing the "Classic" version and in week 3. First of all, I strongly recommend the program. It is not for the person who has never worked out. I thought I was in pretty good shape and was significantly challenged with the program. I now barely use my gym membership and opt for the CDs which are more like working with a personal trainer. You will need a pull up bar and various weights and or bands along with a yoga mat. My husband and I invested in the P90X+ program as well to give ourselves more variety. I am so/so on the P90X+ CDs primarily due to the people that he uses in the program. The other thing about P90X is the diet. It really does not work for me and my lifestyle so I just really tried to watch my intake and saw great results. Please note, my diet was not that bad before and I am far from a fast food junkie.
I liked how the program is about one hour per CD with the exception of the Yoga CD. It is 1.5 hours..which was a challenge for me.
All in all, it is a great program. Listen to your body. Also you will be amazed how strong you will become doing the program. Not sure if I would try it until you are fully healed after having a baby. Good luck to you.
Great program! I use it about twice a year to supplement triathlon training. It's a great off-season workout for me. I've used it for 4 years. It is very intense and you need to commit yourself just as you would going to the gym. As with any workout, diet is a HUGE part and you need to stick to their program or you will Bonk and get fatigued.
I wouldn't try it for the first time while pregnant though...
My husband and I have been using the program since October '09 and it is a great program. My husband has lost so much weight and I'm not too far behind. I gained 65lbs while pregnant and I'm now back into my size 8 pre-preggo clothes. P90X along with a good diet will get you back in shape quickly.
Thanks everyone for all your input! I guess I should have clarified - I do NOT plan on doing this while pregnant! Haha, the idea of that is funny. No, I am trying to get a plan for when I can start working out again after the baby. Before getting pregnant I worked out a LOT, like, 5-8 times per week, free weights, cardio, and swimming. I love it. Since I have been pregnant I have not been doing anything really. Occasional workouts here and there but nothing like before…1) because “going easy” like you have to do while pregnant was just frustrating to me. I didn’t feel like I was getting anything out of it mentally or physically, and 2) I figure this is the only time in my life where I can take it easy so I am doing just that!
I am the type that will stick to something if I start it, so I am glad to hear from so many of you that it works. Sticking with it I can do! Thanks for all the feedback!
