Look into the kids' CDs by They Might Be Giants. There are at least 3 that I know of that are all educationally themed. One is for ABCs, one is numbers and my daughter's favorite is about science. Depending on the other parents' views, you may have to skip the song about evolution. LOL! Hope that helps!

Dan Zanes does children's music that I can tolerate. Also Kimya Dawson.
I love old folksy stuff like Pete Seeger's children's album, Leadbelly, etc.
There is a lot of Jamaican music (reggae, ska, rocksteady etc.) that is great kids music. They seem to love to throw in random nursery rhymes for lyrics. Second the Ziggy Marley, plus check out Yellowman's version of "This Old Man"
My kids also love 80s music, but some of it is annoying. Think Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, etc.
We call my toddler "Baby Gaga" because of her passion for that artist ;) but yes the lyrics are a little mature!

Hi Lesley ... I suggest Caspar Babypants (if you haven't already heard of them). They have great music (even my husband and I love them). The lead singer is Chris Ballew (from the band Presidents of the United States of America). You can check out their music on their website www.babypantsmusic.com ... Or the soundtrack to the Curious George animated movie (by Jack Johnson) is always great too. Not sure exactly what you consider "annoying" but we like these artists and our son and other children at his daycare seem to really like the music too. Good luck!!
They Might Be Giants have some great kids albums - I think I like the 123s the best so far. Also, Sandra Boynton has some albums - Blue Moo is a favorite at our house - it has a a 50's 60's flair to it. We listen to these a lot and I don't get super annoyed by them, which isn't the case when it comes to a lot of children's miusic.
