Hi Moms,
I am hoping to get some much needed information from all of you great Moms on here. My son is in third grade, and was diagnosed in Kindergarten with dyslexia and another learning disability in reading. He receives special ed services in our public school for his learning disability, but I am not sure what, if anything, they are doing to help him learn skills to cope with his dyslexia. This has been a major struggle for him since he started school, and I have a gut feeling the bomb is getting ready to be dropped this year and it is all going to be downhill from here. So, my question is does anyone have names of an private tutor that specializes in dyslexia? I have spoken to some that work with the Neihaus program, and that would be the ultimate situation, as their success rate is pretty high. The problem is it is VERY expensive. I still haven't completely ruled it out, I was just hoping for another alternative that would be a little more in our budget.
Hi Tammy-
Have you asked at the school if any of the teachers in the special ed department offer tutoring outside of school? You might be able to find a teacher in the school (or even from another school in the district) who has a specialization in dyslexia that might tutor privately. I know a lot of the classroom teachers at my son's school tutor.
Good luck,
Karen
where do you live?
I have heard Sylvan is very good. My neighbor/friends had their son in it when he was having trouble with reading. Their system worked for him, and I remember it being very positive.
