Infertility

I just need some advice from other woman who have gone through infertility issues. My husband had a vasectomy during his first marriage after having 2 kids. After we got married recently we did 7 rounds of IUI with the help of Clomid and Follistem with one miscarriage. Our fertility doctor suggested our best bet would be for my husband to have his vasectomy reversed which we did this past November. We have still had no luck and no one seems to be worried about it but me. My doctor suggests if nothing happens within the next couple of months putting me back on Clomid and if nothing within a year trying invitro. I'm 33 and I feel like time is an issue. Also it seems like all my family and friends are pregnant. I'm thrilled for them but it's very diffcult and emotional.

Robyn I can absolutely relate to you - we struggled with infertility for 8 years until we met Mary. I don't know what your situation is - I have PCOS and a tilted uterus. I had several different people reccommend Mary Zhang to me. She is a doctor of Chinese Medicine, and an absolute ANGEL!! Her office is located at 9237 Ward Pkwy, Ste 104, KCMO. Her number is 916 361-8885 or you can check out her website at www.maryzhang.com.

God bless you - I know how difficult this can be. Hang in there!

Robyn, I assume that your husband's sperm count is now considered normal. I would try a few more cycles with the IUI and injectable meds. Do you start a Projesterone a few days after your IUI? Are you going to a Reproductive Endocrinologist? My 1st pregnancy was after my 1st cycle of IUI, my second pregnancy took about 6 cycles and I had to sit out a few cycles because of cysts. I know it is easy to get discouraged! And beleive me I understand the feeling that EVERYONE IN THE WORLD is pregnant but you!! It seems like they are everywhere.

Take care of you, Good Luck,

Michelle

Hi Robyn-
Just wanted to second what the last response was - make sure you see a Reproductive Endocrinologist as soon as possible, if you aren't already. We started trying when I was 40, and I spent a year and a half with my regular ob before moving to the RE. By that time, my FSA had gotten too high and I was basically SOL. We did end up adopting and have a great little boy now. I can certainly relate to the difficulties in dealing with all your pregnant friends and family though! It is so depressing, and nobody seems to really consider your feelings as they are so happy with their own situation, and of course we can't blame them, but still . . . !! Just remember, we're all there for you, and soon enough this will be a distant memory and you'll be so busy changing diapers and trying to sleep that you won't even be able to remember these days!! Good luck!!

Hi Robyn,
I so relate to your frustration, doctors told me to wait and be patient...it would happen. Have you had the procedure done where it is like they roto rooter your falopian tubes out? There is a medical term for it but I can not remember it off hand...? But I have 3 children, after the first I had a miscarriage and could not get pregnant again and I was on all of those things you have listed and before they put me on Follistem they did this procedure and I got pregnant days later and never had to start the Follistem. I watched the procedure on the screen and saw that the dye did not shoot through the fallopian tube on one side as fast as the other and they told me to be patient. I believe there was blockage and that is why I was not getting pregnant. I believe the miscarriage caused the blockage therefore making it difficult for the sperm to get through...so this procedure I believe is what allowed us to have 2 more wonderfully healthy children. Good luck- hope that helps! And I agree with you, your eggs are not getting any younger...you take control and don't sit back and be patient like the doctors are telling you---this is your life and your future...I am 34 and just had our third, I would get another opinion! It will happen for you too, just don't listen to the doctors who are telling you to wait...Good luck!

Robyn - Just curious who your fertility Dr. is? If you are in the KC area, I would only highly recommend Dr. Rodney Lyles in Overland Park. I was a patient of his from age 29 - 34. At your age, time is of the essence. Sounds silly I know, but so true. Your eggs start to get old around age 35 - unfortunately for me, even sooner. It is recommended that after age 30 if you have been trying for 6 months or more to get pregnant with no luck, to seek the help of an expert. It sounds to me that you have already been trying the minimal type of procedures for long enough with your current Dr. I would in no way be waiting to see what happens after a couple of more months - let alone going back to something you have already tried for another whole year! I think you will come to regret that. My husband and I did invitro/ICSI with Dr. Lyles and have a beautiful son now. Dr. Lyles is straight forward, honest, blunt and to the point - which I very much appreciated in this situation. I didn't want any false hope. He looks out for your well-being number one and will not do anything that he feels is a waste of your time. He understands the whole pressure of "time." I wish you the best of luck on your journey and hope that you will soon be very blessed! Hang in there!

I am an acupuncturist. I work on a lot of fertility issues.
I first do a scan of your Meridians (energy pathways) to see what is unbalanced. It is like getting an MRI of your energy system. I can then treat using a needle or non-needle technique. I also consult my patient about dietary and nutritional changes that may need to be made to get the body ready to carry a baby. It is very effective and a lot of fertility doctors are recommending it along with their treatments or instead of their treatments.
We have more information on this at www.bcoh.org

Hope this is helpful,

Dr. Jen Murphy

Robyn, I feel your pain. I went through the Women's Infertility Clinic at KU Medical Center, after 6 months of clomid. I eventually got pregnant with my first IUI...with twins. I hope this helps.

Is there any particular reason that you can't just skip to the invitro? In my oppinion, a good doctor can make all the difference in the world. If you are not happy with what your doctor is telling you, then find a different doctor.

I went through all of the fertility treatment. I ended up haveing a syndrom called polycystic ovarian syndrom. They ended up going in and burning holes into my overies. And about 3 months later I was pregnant with my first. Then we didn't have to do any of the treatment or anything to get our second child. Have they checked your overaies and all of that? If not then that might be a place to start. Good luck.

I also highly recommend Dr. Lyles at Reproductive Resource Center. We owe our son and our twins (on the way) to him and his great staff. You definitely want to be working with an RE since that's their entire job to guide you through infertility.

Good luck and don't give up.

Yes, see a RE Dr. I've been going through infertility for 2 yrs and we are now heading to IVF. We would have done IVF sooner but we had to change insurances and save up money. 7 rounds of IUI seems like a lot. My RE told me my chances were slim after the 5th IUI and told me to try IVF. They should be changing up the protocol every time of every other if it's not working to find something that works for you. Best of luck ;-)

After going through 3 failed IVF cycles and several IUI’s without any results, I had started my journey at the age of 37 as I couldn’t accept the fact that I wouldn’t have any children of my own. By sheer accident I found this book in May of 2012, I implemented most of these guidelines exactly as instructed in the book and found myself holding a positive home pregnancy test in less than 5 weeks! After over seven years of trying to conceive and thousands of dollars spent on infertility treatments, I had actually succeeded to get pregnant the natural way without any drugs or medical intervention all because of a book that costs less than $50! Here is the link for the book: http://pregnancyhours.com
