help with christening please

I have been procrastinating although I really want to get my three sons christened. Although it may be a little difficult, since I was brought up Catholic-but never got Confirmation and was not married in the Church. As well as we arent practicing Catholics. I know you might ask well why does she want her sons christened then. Well honestly for me but more for my Mother, because I know it would make her happy and I love her so much.

Can anyone with all that in mind, help me find a church around Lawrence that I can christen my almost 5y, 2y and 2m olds? Thanks!

Hi Molly,

Try Father Bill at St. Theresa's church (Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish) on the Methuen/Lawrence line. He's very nice and very easy to talk to!

Hi Molly!

I think it's great that you want to have your sons christened. My husband and I help out with the baptism prep classes at my church, and I can assure you that you are in good company-- a lot of people who have not been practicing Catholics decide they want something about the experience of church/faith that they grew up with for their kids.

When a child is christened in the Catholic church, the parents and godparents are introducing the child to the faith community and are making a commitment to bring the child up as a part of that faith community. A big focus of the baptism ceremony is the parents/godparents declaring that commitment. This doesn't mean you have to promise to start attending daily Masses or anything like that--but you do have to be open to making God a regular part of your child's life, and supporting that relationship. With the help of the godparents, of course!

Good luck to you and your sons.
