Hi Moms,
My son is 11. I am looking for a facial cleanser or facial soap for him. (Could be used for his body too or could be a separate cleanser/soap.) Something gentle, with not too many chemicals. He is starting to get a few pimples off & on: I don't think it's acne. I think it's probably from his rushing to hurry up & get out of the shower & not washing his face properly--you know how tween boys are!! What do your kids use to wash their face with??
YP,
I use Burt's Bees tomato complexion soap. It is wonderful and smells good too. Also, I would recommend using an oatmeal soap. They sell them at natural food stores. They can be a bit pricy for a bar of soap but well worth it. Hope this helps.
Witch hazel works great as an astringent. It is less than two dollars a bottle. The generic works as well as the name brand. It doesn't contain artificial colors or perfumes. It can be used after cleansing the face and it helps to close the pores and draw out any dirt in the pores. Just use it with a cotton ball.
I like the Nutrogena soap for cleansing. Not too expensive and they have a variety for different skin types.
Cetaphil--great product--buy at Costco in large container.
Checks N balances by Origins. It's pretty natural and works with all skin types. It lasts forever too because a little goes a long way. I think I used one bottle every 6 months.
Hands down, Cetaphil. You can find it at almost any drug store.
As a teenager I used Velocity by Mary Kay. It is light, and it has little scrubbers (non irritating) to help keep the oil under control. It's not drying at all. Good luck! The hradest part with boys is just getting them to actually do it!
Hi YP - Hope you have had success finding a skin care regimen for your son that does not contain any harsh or potentially unsafe ingredients. I just wanted to let you know that Glimpse Intuitive Skin Care is available now through XanGo Distributors. There is a large family pack that includes 2 cleansers/moisturizers that can be used for the entire family - including those with teenage "combination" skin types and a formulation for normal to dry skin as well. It is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, all clean and green with no unsafe toxins. You may visit www.findgreenhere.com, (safe cosmetics page, cosmetic database)and check the safety ratings of anything you and your family use. I live in San Jose and am scheduling Skin Nutrition Classes in my home or at the client's and would be happy to try a Glimpse skin treatment yourself, and provide you with further information for yourself, your husband (men can shave with it, too) and your son to help prevent the stress of problem skin during the teen years. Hi, Cetaphil is a great one! Lots of doctors and dermatologist recommend it for folks with sensitive skin. It is mild and effective.
Cetaphil is awesome, its very gentle and can be used all over! You can find it at longs or a safeway ...
Cetaphil is known to be a good cleanser, but I think it can be a little mild for that age group -- youngsters with lots of oil. Cetaphil is better for older skin.
There are many good face cleansers -- try Almay or Neutrogena. But I wouldn't get the kind with the acne medication at this point -- that can be a little harsh and actually activate the oil glands to produce more.
Cetaphil is a great product. Also, if you haven't heard of Arbonne products, you should check them out. They are all natural, botanically-based skin care products, and they are wonderful. There is something for every age group. You can check them out at www.everydaycounts.myarbonne.com. You can email for more information, or to get some samples. Good luck.

As a former cosmetologist, a mild plain soap and warm (not hot) water work great. And if he'll do it, any astringent to help close the pores after the shower, if not have him do a quick splash or two with cool water. If it develops further, I highly recommend ProActive. My daughter uses it with FANTASTIC results.
One big hint though: while the natural instinct for oily skin is to wash it all the time .... DON'T. Once or twice is day is PLENTY. In the morning and/or at night for example. Over washing or over use of cleansing pads/wipes (such as clearasil) while they make your skin look good temporarily, actually stimulate the pores to produce MORE oil.
The Velocity Skincare is awesome and so cheap! I sell Mary Kay and my teenage sister and her group of friends all use it as well as many of my clients sons & daughters. I used it until I was 23! It's only $10 a bottle and for overnight help with a pimple or redness there is the Acne Gel for only $7 and usually lasts around 4 months! Check it out...I also offer free shipping!
