Does anyone out there know anything about doula training? I have checked the San Antonio Doula website and there is nothing there about training to become a doula. I am very interested in this field. Did anyone of you have a doula at the time of your pregnancy and deliveries. What was your experience? Can you help me get in touch with one? I want to be sure that I am connected with a reputable and certified agency.
Thank you.
Laura
I did my doula training with San Antonio Birth Doulas through Catholic Charities. My 3 day old son went with me. He liked it :). Call Norma Haro or Suzanne DeLeon at Catholic Charities. THey do one in September, if I'm not mistaken.
Good luck!
I highly recommend going to www.alldoulas.com - they have wonderful forums where you can connect with others and find out about ALL of your training options!!!
I am doing my certification though ChildBirth International (http://www.childbirthinternational.com/doula_training/Doula.htm) and they have a pretty good chart comparing their programs to others:

You do not actually have to be certified to be a doula and/or to charge families for your services. It's totally up to you!
I am a DONA trained doula in the DFW area, I know there are at least two trainings coming up in this area in the next two months.

I certified with ALACE - you can find them on the web, though I am not certified any longer. Luna at vidaluna.com (a mamasource mom) runs a training in Austin.
Good luck!
My sister is a Midwife in Houston. She is involved in several organizations like Texas Midwives Association, etc. Her name is Carol Schumacher and her number is 713-728-3439. She can answer your questions.

DONA is great, especially if you can be trained by Linda Worzer. I learned so much and LOVE what I do!!!
I don't know any doula's but was interested myself.I looked up information and found a website for Doula's of North America. You can go to www.dona.org and find out how to become a doula. I hope this helps you.
You have most likely found the answer to your question now but I thought I would send you this. This is a place in Houston that might be able to give you some good advice.
