Diastasis Recti repair

I was wondering if anyone has this problem called "Diastasis Recti". I wrote in about it earlier this year, but no one responded with this issue. I thought I'd try again. I have been to some doctors who can repair this along with my belly button hernia, but I am wondering if anyone has had problems getting this covered by insurance? I have read that it is not considered a true hernia, but it is affecting my work. I am a professional singer and dancer, and it is affecting my breathing and the ability to belt out notes properly. Also the more I use the stomach muscle area the more the gap seems to spread. Anyone out there with this problem??

Hi Joie,
Unfortunately, I don't have any advice on your particular situation, but I did want to say that I'm sorry no one has been able to help you. I posted a request a couple of days ago also (about my son's fever-related seizure), and I haven't had any responses either. I was hoping for some kind of response to know that someone else has been through this.

Anyways, I hope someone can relate to what you are going through, and I hope everything gets better for you.
Take care,
Alice

Were you born with it? If it is causing physical pain, it should be covered. Remember that insurance compainies are not on your side. Their job is to pay as little as possible. If they refuse to pay, FIGHT! Insurance companies count on people giving up, and very few people take it a step further.

I got my insurance company to pay for breast implants years ago. They paid for implants for both and one needed a lift. I had so many breast surgeries, that I was severly uneven. The medical diagnosis used was deformity. I had no physical pain, only emotional.

I hope this helps

Diane

I have the exact same thing! I am currently pregnant with #2 so my belly button hernia is horrible right now - and my stomach is quite science fiction because of the muscle separation.

My OB told me yesterday she would refer me to a general surgeon after delivery and we'll just have to wait and see.

I notice this post was a couple years ago - what ended up happening for ya?
