diaper rash

HI!
Any good remedies or creams that seem to work better to cure diaper rash? I know I've seen questions on this topic before and of course never wrote any ideas down because I didn't need them before. Anyway, my 6 month old has bad diaper rash that I can't seem to find anything that helps cure it.
Thanks for any ideas!!!

Get Butt Paste, it is in the pharmacy or baby area of stores right with Desitin. It works really well. So does using a little bit of baking soda in with the bath water; it helps with the discomfort and irritation. Let your baby spend some time without a diaper after changing a wet ordirty diaper so they can get some air on their bottom.

the butt paste is beaudreaux's. it is absolutely fabulous for diaper rash!

Paladine works great and you can find it in the baby aisle at Woodman's.

Desitin creamy--also the nighttime seem to always work for my son. Also try washing with a very mild soap with no fragrance several times a day in between diaper changes. Make sure baby is completely dry then put a moisture barier cream such as desitin. Alos make sure if you are giving your baby juice that it is well diluted with water, the acid could be causing the diaper rash. My son is now five however suffered with several skin problems due to asthma. Good luck!!

My previous pediatrician in Lawrence turned me on to "Aquafor"...it's a thick petroleum-based cream. Kind of expensive, but works on everything from eczema to diaper rash. Made by Eucerin.

Jenny,
I can not give suggestions without seeing the rashbut, do you give you child open but time each day to let the rash dry out. Lay her on a wahable blanket and let her have open dry air time for at least 1/2 hour then use a barrier cream like desitin creamy or another to coat her and protect her from developing more rash. Otherwise take her to see her pediatrician or family doctor since there are some medications that can help sometimes. Has she eaten any new foods? If so try stopping them for a few days an see if it clears up. Good luck,
Kir

Jenny,

The best around is Renew Intensive Skin Therapy. Contains no chemicals and is also great for other skin problems like dry skin, eczema, psoriasis and so forth. It out tested Eucirin in double blind tests. It's a great cream and does not once again contain any petroleum based chemicals!!

Hey there Jenny!

As a prevenative measure with my daughter (I am pretty sure girls are more prone to diaper rash) I used to put A &D in the yellow box on her bottom a couple of times a day.
When my kids had an actual rash I used Butt Paste (actual name) with very good results. It doesn't smell terrible, and it usually cleared up the rash in a day or two.
If a rash was more severe (sometimes it happens after a bout of diarehha....ewwww) my doctor advised me to use straight hydrocortisone cream. This was always a good no- fail option for me!
Hope this helps!

Lots of suggestions already, huh? LOL That's what's great about putting so many women together.
Here are my suggestions...

Clotrimazole... it's the generic form of Lotrimin, the althete's foot creme. Either would work, but why pay more for the name brand stuff?
Also, my cousin swears by this mixture, she gave me the recipe when I was pregnant with my twins...
1 part Desitin Creamy
1 part Vaseline
1/2 part Maalox

Try vaseline, I know it sounds to easy but I use it on my son and he's 5 months and it works better that any diaper rash ointment out there and it's cheaper, just try it you'll see after just a few hours you will start to see a difference, and also you can use it after each diaper change to keep away diaper rash, just try it you'll be amazed.

Oh yea make sure you buy the real vaseline and not the generic kind, the jar with the blue label and medical symbol on the front.
Have a Blessed day

Have you tried ButtPaste? I used it on my daughter and it got rid of it really quick.. it is easy tp put on and easy to wipe off so it doesnt hurt the exsisting diaper rasp when you wipe it off.. hope it helps

Corn starch works great! Make sure her bottom is clean and dry and pat some corn starch on the rash. Be sure to change her often. You can also leave her diaper off for a little while so the rash can dry and heal.

We always use Paladin on our kid's butts. It works really good, and you can only get it wat Wal-Mart. If her butt is so bad it's bleeding, I'd call the doctor. Our doctor prescribed us something for my son who had it SO bad. Even though the rash was bleeding, the cream would still stick to it!! Next to that stuff, Paladin is the best we've used.

I agree with the Corn Starch. You can get it just about everywhere and it works great. My daughter is 3 now but that is what we used when she had diaper rash. She could get it really bad no matter how much you changed her. It worked fast, stopped the pain, and healed well.

Definately. Here goes:
1. for relief, try bathing her in an oatmeal bath. It's a little messy so put the oatmeal bath in one half of the sink and rinse her in the other half. just let her sit in it. it will help her poor bottom get some relief.

  1. you can also leave the oatmeal in the diaper but that gets messy

  2. tea bags in the diaper neutralize the urine

  3. infant probiotics (found at your local health food store) orally and on the rash. just mix with a little vaseline or non-petroleum jelly

  4. colloidal silver (also found at your local health food store) sprayed directly on the rash!

good luck!

After 2 kids I have found that straight 40% Zinc Oxide (you can get it at Wal-Mart in the health and beauty area. . you can get Equate or the red and white tube, but it HAS to be 40%, not 10, 13, or 20, but 40% and that will take care of it in one diaper change, seriously. . . good luck and God BLess!

i know it may sounds crazy, but i was told by a doctor i know to use powder corn starch. it worked every time and fast too. it didn't leave any crazy residue or cause another infection either.

I know this may sound gross, but it works! Get some flour and brown it in a skillet. It should actually turn a little brown, it will smell a little weird, but thats ok. Put all of it in an airtight container and rub a little on everytime you change the diaper. In just a few short days, it will be gone. My daughter had diaper rash once and my mother told me about this, she never had it again.

:)

I use the A&D ointment (in the yellow box) and then cover it with baby powder. The A&D protects the skin and the baby powder absorbs the urine (or diarrhea) and keeps it off the skin.

If it is a rash possibly caused by acids (apple juice, tomatoes, etc.) you can mix Maalox and cold cream (1/2 & 1/2) and put this on. The cold cream makes it stick, and the Maalox cuts the acid.
Good luck,
Jeanette
