i have the hoover steam one, its an upright one, had it for years, never fails and is easy to use, they are about $150
I second the Hoover. While I do not have one, our bissell shampooer recently quit working. Talked to the vaccuum repair man and he said that the new bissells still have problems and that we should look for a hoover. As a guy who sees a lot of broken vacuums and shampooers, I would think he would know what he is talking about. He steered us right when we had to replace our regular vacuum a while back too.
