My grandchildren are coming to visit. What is the best playground in Charleston for very young children (ages 1-3)?
These aren't exactly IN Charleston, but we love both the Sullivans Island Park on Middle street next to the fire station and the Isle of Palms Rec Center park on 28th. My daughter is just 2 now and loves both parks. We've gone to both since she was 9 months old and have always found something great for her age. The SI one is also fenced in, so you can let them roam a bit.
Hi Beth,
In my opinion Alhambra Hall in the Old Village in Mt. Pleasant is one of the nicest playgrounds in our area. I took my kids there alot when they were little.
I really like Brittlebank Park, downtown on Lockwood across from the police station and the Mariott. It's designed to also be used by children in wheelchairs, so there are ramps as well as steps, for the younger children who may not be able to walk yet. You can take them on the dock (hold hands!) to watch people fishing, or just walk down to the water. There's a lot of marsh grass as a buffer. If you're downtown, you could even take a trolley/bus to the bus stop across the street -- what a treat!
Enjoy! Margaret
Alhambra Hall. There's lots of fun stuff to do and the view of the harbor can't be beat. It's fun to show them the ships and the boats in addition to play.
