Baptism gift

Hello there - my son's baptism is coming up and I don't know what to get his godparents as a "thank you" gift. Any suggestions?

We always go to things remembered to get personalized gifts, for all 3 of my childrens Godparents..We got everything from beer mugs with the Godfathers name on it to picture frame with date of Baptism and childs name on it to a small silver heart jewelry box with godmothers name on it..They have alot of good things there. I wanted to personalize them to make them special from my kids.. Good Luck and Congrats to your baby on Baptism....

Congratulations on both children and the upcoming baptism. The best gift we found for the godparents of our children was a book called Godparents: A Celebration of Those Special People in Our Lives by Michelle DeLiso. The reason we liked it is because it recognized what an important role we feel this is for our children and their godparents but also ways for them to bond over the years. Three out of the four godparents have other godchildren but each one of them commented that they loved the book for a number of reasons: it gave ideas about bonding and remaining invovled in their godchildren's lives, explained what a godparent should be and the role they can take after the baptism, and included many wonderful stories. Often times people do not really know what their role is as godparents, even if they have other godchildren. The other thing to remember is that asking these special people is a gift in and of itself so our godparents felt this was above and beyond but still remain focused on the expectations of them as godparents and also gave us the opportunity to be on the same page, pardon the pun. Good luck.

we did a picture frame and had it engraved with the baptismal date. It had a picture of the baby with her baptismal outfit on.

I love the book idea that Cady mentioned. It's true that Godparent has become just more of a title for close friend and family and not so much a role.

I am a Godparent and I received a very nice wooden picture frame that says Godmother, date of baptism and has a picture of my God-daughter. It is a nice keepsake.

Huh... my husband is Godfather to three children (two family, one friend) and he has never received a thank you gift. I am godparent to one child (family) and haven't received a thank you gift either. That is really nice of you to think of thanking them. :) I like the picture frame idea.

Crud! Yet ANOTHER thing I was unaware of. I suppose it does make sense, I did get bridesmaids and groomsman gifts for my wedding party. It would stand to reason that a gife for the godparents would follow. I am embarrassed to say that I did not get my child's godparents a gift. Well, now that I am aware of this social expectation, I would give them a picture frame.

I was just at Marytown on 176 in Libertyville and saw that they had a few Godparent gifts. I got the godparents of our children prayer journals.

Don't feel obligated to get a gift for your godparents. I know I felt like it was a gift to just be asked to be one. But when I asked our family to be our children's godparents, I just felt so happy that they would take on this responsibility that I wanted to indulge a little with a small gift of thanks and to let them know how special it was for us all.

Congratulation on your child's baptism! I hope you all have a wonderful day.

I never got mine gifts, but I had 4 godparetns for my daughter LOL Maybe a picture frame with your baby in it?

Baptism gifts are an important part of the baptism tradition. Whether one is giving baptism gifts to an infant or adult receiving baptism the purpose of the gift is the same: Thanks for great sharing.
