Advice about Baptism/Christening?

I'm expecting my first child any day now and am trying to plan ahead a bit. My husband and I are not overly religious and don't belong to a church, but we do want to have our baby baptised/christened. Does anyone know of a nice church in the Pocono Pines/Blakeslee/Mt. Pocono area that would perform this ceremony for us even though we're not members? Perhaps if we like the church we will end up joining anyway. Thanks for the help!!

Bonnie,

Try the Pocono Mountain Methodist Churches. They are usually pretty good about that. The catholic Church in Pocono Pines will do it if you're not a member, but you have to be catholic, and have been confirmed catholic. That's Our Lady of the Lake.

I was not overly religious before my daughter was born. I knew I would have to make decisions regarding her baptism. I found a methodist church. I will tell you that you do need be a member. My husband and I attended Bible study classes and church service every Sunday for 4 months before she was born. We then had to be confirmed and become members in a ceremony in front of the congregation. It was the best thing I have ever done!!! I love going to church on Sundays and have made wonderful friends and a great support system. I'm sooo glad I took the step.
Good Luck!!

We had a weird situation because I am Pagan, my husband is Lutheran, and the chosen godparents were Agnostic and Methodist. The Methodist church agreed to do it, since one of the godparents was Methodist. I had it done because my very Catholic grandparents feared for his little mortal soul and I wanted to make them happy, and they said to just find a Christian religion that would do it. They don't know I'm Pagan, so I left that out and just said I was Catholic when I called around.
