7 month old diagnosed with nystagmus

Hi Moms,
My gorgeous little 7 month old son was recently diagnosed with Nystagmus. He has benign congenital horizontal motor nystagmus. The opthamologist said he's slightly long sighted at this point but other than that it's difficult to know what will happen in the future. He said there's nothing we can do other than remain in a 'wait and see' mode for the moment.
Has anyone any experience with this. I live in Matawan NJ and would be happy to travel anywhere to visit a specialist so if you have recommendations please feel free to let me know .
Thanks,
Michelle.

HI, I don't know what eye dr. you took him to see, but I would recommend Dr. Engle in East Brunswick (I am not sure how it is spelled, might be Engel. His practice only is for children, and he is a wonderful doctor. He travels the world working on eye problems in children. My daughter was diagnosed with some issues (not what your son has) when she was three and a half BY ANOTHER DOCTOR. My pediatrician recommended we go see him. He had a wait and see approach and sure enough, the therapy, etc... that the other doctor recommended was not necessary. Good Luck! I'm sure you are very upset and nervous, don't worry, it will get better. If you want to contact me off this site, it is okay.

I totally agree with Barbara and take him to see Dr. Egnle in East Brunswick. At his practice I also like Dr. Stella Han.

Hi Michelle. No matter who you go to, always get a second opinion. I recommend CHOP (Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia). You can call the main number (215-590-1000) and ask for whichever dept it is that you need and they'll connect you. My son has had a team of Drs out there since 2/01 and they saved his life or JSUMC would have killed him by the time he was 3 months old. He's now 9 and in wonderful health. Give it a shot, you have nothing to loose. Good luck.
