What's for Lunch!?

Any one have fresh simple ideas/recipes for lunch? My daughters are 6, 4, and 18m and I am haveing the hardest time finding kid friendly lunch ideas that don't take forever to put together. If I fix another PBJ with oranges or Mac and Cheese I think we all four will go crazy.

I'd check out http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/ and http://allrecipes.com/

Another thing I did for ideas is copied the menue from school lunch, that gave me ideas on what to make.

I also purchased a kids cook book from Betty Crocker Kids cookbooks (I hope this comes up for you) http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780471753094&itm=12

I loved the cook book because my son is a picky eater, but when he saw the kids cook book, he wanted to try everything, (Because its special for kids!)

I love using Kraft's website: www.kraftfoods.com
I use them almost everyday.

My son is 2yrs old and he likes everything (almost)
We have cold tuna pasta salad. I get the tri-colored ones that are made of tomato and spinach and add a little bit of mayo and honey mustard. (can also be done with chicken chunks)

We've also had chicken fingers. I just lightly bread them and throw them in the toaster oven with some ketchup and zuchini fries.

Or how about a chicken salad. My son will actually eat a salad (lol) I just use the fancy cuts for the carrots and slice the tomatoes in square chunks instead of slices, some red bell peppers (yummy).

Ok, Im getting hungry now, lol.

Best wishes,
Claudia~

we call these banana burritos

you warm up a tortilla , spread a little peanut butter on it
put sliced banans and sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon,
then roll them up like a burrito,
very tasty and your kids can help make them so its fun for them too.

good luck

My kids love wraps. The favorite is a slice of turkey,a mozerella cheese stick rolled in a small tortilla. But we also do refried beans and cheese, grilled chicken strips and rice or almost any leftovers rolled in a tortilla or lettuce. Kids love them best if you let them "dip" the wraps. So we often have a small bowl or lid wih salsa, sour cream, ranch dressing, or something like that. And an added Bonus---even small children (my 2 1/2 year old) can help make wraps!

My kids love grilled sandwiches! So here is something that is easy and fun.
First I spread mustard on each slice of bread. Then I add deli sliced turkey (or Ham) and Cheddar (or American) cheese. I then butter and grill the sandwiches for about 1 minute per side, then I use 2 1/2 inch cookie cutters to shape the sandwich. My girls like hearts and flowers, and if you have animal shapes you can use mustard to draw the faces. My kids love them! The cookie cutters are also good for pancakes in the morning.

Here is another that is easy. "Hot Dog Macaroni"
ingredients:
1 pkg hot dogs
1 cup uncooked corkscrew pasta
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
(10 ounces) of frozen peas
1 cup 1% milk
Slice hot dogs into bit-size pieces; set aside. In a large saucepan cook pasta according to package directions, drain and return to saucepan. Stir in hot dogs, cheese, peas and milk. Cook over medium heat 10 minutes or until cheese is melted, stirring occasionally. My kids like this for lunch or dinner.

Make individual meatloaf servings in a muffin tin so the pieces are easy to pack in a plastic box. I send it with cous-cous and diced cooked carrots.

I knwo what you mean my daughter ate pbj for three months straight for lunch, her choice not mine but i was tired of looking at it. She is only 22 months old but she eats a salad with veggies on it and dressing, or we make baked potatoes in the microwave or use leftover ones from the night before. I also do a lot of noodles for her. Lipton has a bunch of flavors like chicken, stroganoff, and asian flavors.

My kids liked a lot of peanut butter & jelly too but I also gave them tuna fish sandwiches, ham sandwiches, bolonga sandwiches, along with carrot sticks, ants on a log(celery with peanut putter topped with raisins for the ants) apples slices, hotdogs or pigs in a blanket(hot dogs wrapped im biscuits and baked), tomato soup with saltine crakers and apples, chicken noodle soup, leftovers from yesterdays dinner, cheese sandwiches etc.
One thing that is fun is to make a salad with a leaf of lettuce on a plate then a pear on top with raisins for the eyes. One thing I did to make lunch fun is ask the kids if they wanted their sandwiches cut into squres, rectangles or triangles so as well as teaching them about shapes their sandwiches were in interesting shapes. Sometimes it's fun to just use cookie cutters to make different shapes of sandwiches too.
If you give them a variety of foods now you can experment to see what they will eat so they will not be so picky as they get older. Sometimes introducing a new food is a good thing. Good luck. Have fun. There is so much junk food out there today. Try to feed them healthy foods, they will thank you later.
