Wavy hair after pregnancy!

Hi! I'm Amy, a mother of three, and a hair stylist. I've always had stick straight hair until I had my third child in 2005, now it's very wavy. I cannot just let it air dry anymore. Unfortunately, if you want to wear it straight, you will have to flatiron it to give it that silky look. Try using the Matrix Sleek line, they have shampoo, conditioner, sleek syrum and hairspray.. this works wonders.. after you use the shampoo and conditioner, definitely use the sleek syrum, then straighten. If you want to leave it wavy/curly.. use the Matrix for curls. it comes in green bottles. its very nice, use the shampoo and conditioner, then the mousse, and they also have a spray for the frizzies.. I usually dont dry my hair all the way to let it get crunchy, and after about an hour or so, it's soft and wavy.. I hope this will help for ya!

I have always had a slight wave to my hair but after 2 children it is more of an almost curl! I use Aussie taming milk it is in a small pump and I can only find it at Meijer and Walmart it is not crusty and it keeps the friz away

A perfect trick to wavy hair... I've got some suggestions.

First... use lots of conditioner. I like Pantene, but really any conditioner will probably work... like Suave. Wash your hair as normal. Then put heavy amount, like a couple tablespoons, into your hair. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to sink into your wet hair. Then lightly rinse. (Do not rinse it out completely... just run a bit of water through it.) Towel dry out the heavy wetness. Air dry.

Your hair should be a lot less frizzy. You can always use another mixture of half water - half conditioner in a spritzer bottle.

For styling...

For a fancier out-and-about sytle, add the following products to dry hair. Use a combination of gel, water, and mousse. Put a small amount of each into your hand. Mix it with your finger. Then run your hands through your hair. This will give you the ability to build definition without the crunchiness.

For shorter hair, you can use the large curlers. This is great with this three product combination. Simply put in the curlers. Use a hair dryer with high heat on hair, then cool heat on hair, remove curlers. You can help straighten up the waves into something more formidable for a fancy look. Otherwise, there are straighteners that are for sale at hair stylons or Sally's Beauty Supply. You simply wipe it on the hair and use a straightening brush as you dry your hair. Use a middle strength heat for best results... or high heat then cool air.

With a natural look and no fuss with styling, use the three products on wet hair, then comb through, and air dry.

The best bet with curly or wavy hair is letting it air dry with product already it in. That way you can see what the less frizzy option is and see what you reallly have to work with. You might just simplify the look around the house with a barrett, scrunchy, or just wisp it back with light product.

Redkin ALL SOFT Conditioner. Blow dry using a bristtle brush not a spiked one. Set on hot rollers. Enjoy the wave or then flat-iron to silk.

In the sixties, they used Dippity-Do on the dry ends and then used the rollers. Another leave-in moisturizing styling gel should do the trick.

This is what happens at the "change" too.

Hope that helps, Gorgeous! ;-)

Probably just a hormonal thing. The longer your hair gets the more it gets weighed down. The length pulls it down. As far as the frizziness, I would recommend John Frieda Frizz-Ease Products.

Omg, I have the same exact problem. My hair is more wavy in the back too and I feel like crying every morning because I can't do anything with it! I have tried everything and nothing works. My hairdresser said she's never seen someone who's hair has changed so much after a pregnancy. It sucks!!!!

Wow! I was overwhelmed by the number of responses I got to this question! Glad to know I’m not the only one who’s hair went wonky after pregnancy.

I’ve picked up a few of the products suggested & stopped trying to fight the wave as hard as I had been (in fact, last night was the first time I’ve straightened my hair in weeks). I plan on letting it grow back out to make it all a bit more managable.

Thanks for the input, ladies!!
