Vacation, but where?

Dear Moms,
I need a vacation, I can go on one.... but I can't decide where?? My plan is to travel the first or the second week of August with Grandma, easy going Grandma :) and two kids - 5 and 2. I would like a nice resort with lots of activities for kids, pool, possibly Kids Club. And while my two years old takes a nap with Grandma in the afternoon to still be able to do stuff with my 5 years old without being in a pool all day long - maybe mini golf, playground, etc... First, I was thinking of Orlando, FL and not necessary the parks every day, maybe one, two. Then was Mexico Pacific Coast or just drive to Wisconsin Dells... I went on Trip Advisor, my Travel agent, friends, everyone has a different idea. Someone mentioned Michigan or Clearwater, FL, list can go on...
I don't mind the hot and humid weather, or short tropical storms if it's somewhere south, isn't it the same in Chicago?? And I find it difficult to decide. Budget is not big, but OK.
I would really appreciate your advise. Where do you go in August with small kids, where do you/they like it?
Thank you!
Silvia

Being from Michigan, I always think it's a great place to vacation! Just got back yesterday from Traverse City with a stop at Mackinaw Island. My kids are 1, 4, and 7 - they loved it! We've also been to Savannah, GA recently and my kids wanted to move there. We spent an afternoon on Tybee Island to see the lighthouse and play in the ocean and spent another day walking on the riverfront in Savannah. It was so HOT I thought I was melting (heat index near 100). My daughter's absolute favorite place to visit in rhe whole world is the Strong Museum of Play in Rochester, NY. Not sure what else there is there to do since we were there for only two days.

Good luck and have a good time! I had to take a two hour nap today to recover from my 'relaxing' vacation!

Orlando is my choice. You can do Disney or Universal...the amusement parks and waterparks cannot be beat!! Or skip all that and do the "other orlando". There is minigolf everywhere, as well as shops and every restaurant under the sun!! Many resorts have awesome waterparks in them...(Marriott World Center, Disney's Beach Club!!). My favorite has a great pool, lazy river and slide and par 3 family golf course (Omni Championsgate, just south of Orlando.) We LOVED Gatorland...good old fashioned fun...fed the gators and got to sit on one!! The WonderWorks museum was so much fun for my boys, buttons and gadgets everywhere! We've done Disney 4 times, Universal twice, and taken various other trips jsut to swim in the pools and enjoy the sun! The ocean is only an hour to an hour and a half away. We went to clearwater for a beach day too. Its the best location because its close to everything!! PM me is you decide to go there and have any questions. I have an 8 and 5 year old, as well as a 23 month old! I can't say enough about Orlando!!

Vanuatu, Fiji, or the Cook Islands.

One of the "Brunswick Islands" in NC: Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle Beach, Holden Beach, Oak Island, Bald Head Island & Caswell Beach...We head to Sunset Beach every year and my husband's family has vacationed in the area for 50+ years. We love Sunset Beach because it's all families, you're 30 minutes away from Myrtle Beach, cute little shops and there is great food! I'd be happy to give you more details if you're interested!

Sea Pines Plantation, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Tons of beach/pool activities, very kid friendly. No real "kids club" though, although there is something in Harbor Town you can look into. Have fun!

Myrtle Beach has tons of kid/family stuff to do. Good food too. It was reasonable as far as vacations go. About a 17 hr. drive if you're driving. Lots of on the beach hotels to choose from.

We like Ocean Creek Resort in North Myrtle Beach and Sea Colony Resort in Bethany DE....

We just got back from Pigeon Forge, TN and I can't wait to go back. The Smokey Mountains are beautiful. We went with my husbands family and our 4.5 and 2 year old. We were staying just off the strip where there is tons to do. Mini golf, go carts, amusement park rides....And of course tons of awesome trails to hike (if you are into that). The hikes aren't great for a 2 year old, but my older daughter loved hiking. We rented a house so I don't know about resort situations, but I'm sure you could get more info online. Have a great vacation whatever you decide.

We really enjoy Door County,Wisc. for many years. I'd recommend staying at the Eagle Harbor Inn. Another place is Pentwater, Mich. Sand dunes, beach! Also you could drive up to Luddington as well. Good luck!

I have a co-worker who is taking her young children (4-5) to Martha's Vineyard the first week of August. I haven't been there myself but it sounds nice. Have a great trip, wherever you decide to go!
