I think I'm in the minority. I don't like the names. The "oh-my-gosh-look-at-me-I-have-a-unique-name-because-I'm-more-'specialer'-than-you" trend is annoying.

Dalton makes me wonder if it might get shortened or nicknamed 'Dolly'. And after that all I can think of is Dolly Parton. Now, I like Dolly Parton but she is well-known for two big reasons as well as her voice...

Braelyn, Karsyn, Kayman - not a fan of the spellings. I'm going to bet your husband hates these.

Wylie reminds me of Wyle Coyote.

Harper is about the only one on the list I find palatable. It is becoming very, very popular among girls so your desire for it to be unique, well that might not happen.

Give your child a unique name but not something with a spelling that is completely made up. If it is a girl, she'll thank you later for it.

Nevah
Aven (a little yellow alpine flower)
Linnaea (white alpine flower and a known scandinavian girl name)
Bergen (norweigan girl name)

Aleria (latin for eagle)
Adelie
Otillie (Tillie for short)

I love different names. Where we live so many kids have different names that it's no big deal. we have kids here from all parts of the world. I noticed that in my son's class no kids get teased for their names...they all just take it in stride! We lived in Alaska for 14 years and I have met many adults, teenagers and young children with very unique names. I have to tell you that these people did not turn out weird at all (like one poster thinks)...they were amazing and wonderful people.

People don't turn out weird because they have weird names. What does weird mean anyway? If weird means creative, intelligent, artistic and unique then I hope that my kids turn out VERY weird.

I love the name Harper. My SIL was considering that for a girl name.
I am a big fan of some of the suggestions that you have gotten! Especially the ones that C.T. from Los Alamos contributed.

My daughter's name is Eliana (Ellie-Ah-nah) and it gets mispronouced ALL the time. I could care less because I love that name and it fits her completely.

Other names I like are Novia, Evian, and Avery.
Good luck!

Sorry for any repeats! I LOVE Harper, that's darling and I'm a very literary person and a huge Harper Lee fan, so that one I for sure agree with. I love crossover names! Here are some favs:

Emerson
Bronte
Kyle
Parker
Jordan
Daryn
Grayson
Taylor
Colby

My favorite girls name is Kasen...I think just because its my daughters name :)

I have 2 daughters named Samantha and Melania pronounced: Mel-anya.
And our boys name is Xavier.

I grew up with an unusual name Ruby, except in my family. I was named for my grandma, the first named for her but 2 cousin Rubys followed. So we were known by first and middle name. I don't mind my name but believe it or not often people couldn't spell my name and that was just weird. An ex-bf couldn't spell my name and it's the same as HIS birthstone. (Gee wonder why he's an ex) The other thing that always bothered me was I could never get stuff pre-made with my name on it. Coffee mugs, stationary ect never comes with my name on it, even now. My name has become popular now I do hear parents calling out to their daughters occasionally.
I don't like surnames as first names especially for little girls. It sounds too masculine. Naming your child is the most important gift you give them and the name has to grow with them. Bambi was popular for girls back in the '50's after the movie, too bad Bambi was the BOY deer. And really does the name Bambi sound like a CEO - doctor - lawer to you. Names like Penelope can be Penny for a little girl but grow with her if she wants it to.

Here are some of my faves that hubby wouldn't go for:
Girls:
Ainsley
Arijuana (Are-E-Ah-Na)
Bryn
Lelu
Cambria

Boys:
Tripp
Coop/Coup
Wylie

Good Luck! Naming them was ALWAYS the hardest part, for me anyways!

I like Cheyenne Nicole.

=)
Congrats on the baby!
ETA: We named our daughter Roxy. ;)

I used to know a girl named Karis - I thought it was both an unusual and feminine name.

I LOVE Ariadne-- "Air-ee-ahd-ney"

Its from Greek mythology but it was also the girl's name in Inception (Ellen Page's character). If we had another baby DH would never go for it, its too unique for him (we names our kids 80's names!) but I think its fabulous.

My SIL is named a boy name: Tyler-- my MIL was a generaltion ahead of her time!!

Good luck!!

Hey, can you take one more comment? I am not even going to name a name! I just wanted to add: I always think parents should consider how a name will sound when the child is young; when the child is a young adult and trying to be a professional; and when the "child" is much older. There are some cutesy-pie names or highly unusual or unusually spelled names that will frankly create negative impressions about a professional adult, and would be perhaps embarrassing to call a senior citizen! I know folks would differ, but I've seen it happen. Not that names have to be dull, but just consider the impact later and whether people would snicker at a grown woman being called a certain name. (Yes, this is based on a friend's sister who was given a cutesy name, not Bambi as someone mentioned but similarly candy-sweet and little-girlish, and I dread to think of her calling herself that name as a 30-year-old.). This is why a longer, traditional name that can be shortened for kids and used fully for adults can be useful.

We have a Braelyn at the daycare I work at and I really like that name when I first heard it (still do!) Maybe you and your hubby could compromise and do a more traditional name that he likes for the middle name (or first name and yours for the middle?). I like different names too - we run into so many of the same names that we have to call them by first and last (Jackson, Ruby, Alex, Carson, Carter are real popular now. Taylor, Tyler, Jacob, Zach(ary) Emily, Samantha (Sami), have all had their turns! ...and many more! My girls have more unique first names and traditional middle names. Have fun naming!

Congrats! Here are some of my favorites:
