Pregnancy after a tubal ligation

Ok ladies, I am losing it. My peroid is not due until next week, however, I have very sore, swollen and tender, breasts, Nausea with no vommitting and I am tired all the time. Could I be pregnant? The tubal was in January 2005.

Ok, I went to the doctor and they confirmed that I am pregnant. However they think that its a tubal. I have to go back tomarrow for more blood work to check my Hcg counts, and then they said I may need a shot of methotri something. Its a drug used in chemotherapy,. It will end the preg. I am scared to death. Has anyone gone through this? Other than the thought of my baby dying inside me, I am scared to death of needles. Please let me know. Thank you all. I will update you tomarrow.

When I had my tubal in 2005 I was told that there was a chance that it could fail within the first 10 years. I believe it was a 1 in 100 or 1 in 1000 chance of failure. I had a lot of problems with my cycle the first year, and for about 6 months had a pregnancy test every month because it was anywhere from a week to two weeks late. It finally regulated out, but I was constantly reminded that there was a chance of failure within those first 10 years. You could find a pregnancy test that works up to 5 or 7 days prior to your expected period, call your doctor, or wait the week to see what happens.

Sore breasts were always my first sign of pregnancy for me. Sounds like you should go get a preg. test. Good Luck, everything happens for a reason, even though we don't understand it in the moment!!!!

It's quite possible, Rebecca. Or it could just be re-adjustment or hormones. But gosh it's been 3.5 years. That does seem awfully long since the procedure. Well you can only take a pregnancy test, see a doctor.

my girlfriend who has had her tubes tied for 10+ years just had a tubal pregnancy, so if you think that you are pregnant take a test and call the doc to make an appt asap and let them know that your tubes are tied...or suppost to have been...lol. good luck!!!!

Rebecca,

YES you could be pregnant! I had my tubes tied in Aug of 2003 and by May of 2006 I was pregnant again. Although I didn't figure it out until I was 5 months along. I was lucky, it could have been a tubal pregnancy and if it would have ruputured I could have died. But it wasnt and it didn't so we are just believeing that it was meant to be. Definitly get a test if you think you are.
I was told that the chances of pregnancy after a tubal ligation are between 1%-3% and out of those pregnancies 99% are tubal pregnancies. Thats a pretty high percentage! I would err on the side of caution if I were you. You can get pregnancy tests at most of the dollar stores (I know Dollar General has them, and they are only $1.00) Cheap piece of mind. Good luck to you and I hope your not.
God Bless.

It's unlikely, but possible. Tender breasts can always be a sign of a due period, also, even if it isn't usually for you. A tubal pregnancy is a serious risk, as well, and can cause you very much harm...so I'd take a test and if it's positive, call the doc...esp. if you start having abdominal pain!

Although unlikely, it is still possible. Try a home pregnancy test. If it is negative, and you still haven't had your period in a couple weeks, it doesn't hurt to go see your doctor. Good luck!

I had my tubal ligation a few months after you(May 05) and have also been experiencing these same symptoms! I haven't thought I was pregnant though. My GYN said that it is common after the surgery for period symptoms to get worse and come earlier in the cycle. I am considering having surgery to stop my periods all together because I am SOOOO SICK of dealing with this every month. On top of all of the early symptoms I'm also having very heavy periods! Last week I couldn't even leave the house because I was in the bathroom every hour. You should talk to your doctor, maybe there's something he or she can do to help easy the situation for you. I'm sure you feel the same way I do, my period is taking over my life! Good luck!

It sounds like you are. My last pregnancy I started talking with a woman that was pregnant and she got a tubal 6 years before. I would definately go to the doctor!

my grandmother had her fallopian tubes removed and 15 years later, my uncle was born. there are no guarantees when you mess with mother nature.

Yes it can happen. Try a test when your period is late.

I have a dear friend who had a tubal 3 1/2 years ago. She's had 4 pregnancies ending in miscarriage since then. Her doctor told her they should consider having her husband have a vasectomy because she could continue to get pregnant and miscarry. He was certain any future pregnancy would not be viable. So it does happen.

I am pregnant, but they are thinking its a tubal. More testing tomarrow and I will go from there. I will keep you updates. Thank you all for the information. Although this is hard, knowing that i am not alone makes it a little easier.
