I need help with hacker problem

Hi Ladies: I'm having a problem with someone somehow hacking my computer and sending out emails that I have no knowledge of. What I need your help with is this: I would like to send out an email to my entire address book so that everyone would be aware of what's going on but I don't know how to do that. I mean how do you put every email address up on one single email to send out all at once. I have AOL if that makes any difference. Thank you all and God bless. Marla

Call your internet service provider asap and tell them you've been hacked.
Change your passwords immediately.
Good luck!

Change your password, first off. Then go into your address book and copy and paste by the alphabet. Make your subject line say "I've been hacked!!!" and write them a note telling them to please disregard the strange message sent from your email address regarding "x".

It's a pain, but if they are trying to sell something, or want your friends to subscribe to a service, you are doing them a favor by telling them. These sites can be awfully convincing.

Good luck and get to copying and pasting!!

I agree with the previous posts about changing your password and contacting your internet provider.

I'm not sure how AOL's email works, but when I create a new email with my Hotmail account I can actually click on the word "To" next to the line where you type the recipient's email address and it pulls up a list of all of my contacts with little check boxes next to them. I can either select the ones I want to send to or I can check the box that says "Select All" put everybody's name in the "To" line.

Unfortunately, no one has to hack into your computer to be able to use your email address to send out a message. I had an email address that was used to send out a ton and spam. I got a message from the provider saying I was shut down due to my spam activity. Whoever was able to send emails using my email address just like when someone creates an email address that seems to be valid, like from a bank, but is actually in Nigeria or wherever. Definitely change you password and alert AOL that your email was used so that if others continuously report you as a spammer, you are not shut down. For sending an email to numerous, click on your TO: box and you should be able to view your address list. I think there is also an address box.

You may be able to click on your contact list and then "select all" or check the box next to each address then choose "new mail". You might have to right click.

My dad's email just got hacked and weird emails got sent to everyone in his address book. Unfortunately, he opened a friend's emails that said things like: "wow" "it's amazing" and "open this" and this gave the hacker access to my dad's contacts. So be careful what you open and good luck on getting it all cleaned up.

Marla:

Your account was hacked.

In order to add all recipients type each e-mail address and separate them with a comma. Tell them what happened.

Next you need to contact AOL and tell them your account was hacked. Coordinate with them to get a new account set up.

If you think your computer was compromised - run a virus scan and change any and all passwords to accounts you use on that computer.

Good luck!

Your computer has not been hacked. What happens is that someone else's e-mail account had a virus. They sent out a message to you with a link that you clicked on. This put the virus in your e-mail account and it in turn e-mailed all of your contacts a virus.

You can send out a message to your contacts (I don't use AOL but I am guessing there is some way to select all). I probably wouldn't bother as most people have already either clicked the link or already knew in advance it was a virus.

You should change your e-mail password in case the virus has used your password but it probably isn't really an issue.

In the future be wary of any e-mail with an odd subject line "Check this out today!!", poor grammar, or misspellings. Especially if these e-mails contain a link and not much else. They are very common.

It sounds more like a virus.
Update and run your anti virus software.
Step up your security / firewall to make sure you don 't get infected again.
Informing the entire contents of your address book of your difficulties is not your top priority.
You can inform them in small groups later on.

You should be able to open the TO tab in the email then just click or double click on the address book names to add them - BUT please do this in a BCC tab not the TO tab so everyone doesn't get an email with a page long header of addresses.

:)

Also - do update your virus controls and scan your computer - malware that you inadvertently get from web sites can do this.

Good Luck

Like another poster said, this is most likely not someone who hacked into your computer. It is probably not even a problem with your computer. The most common viruses will send emails from a contact in the infected computer's list. This makes it much more difficult to figure out which computer is infected and more likely that people will open the email.

Yes, you can email everyone - and please blind copy everyone. It is probably good to let them know that the virus is being sent around. Most emails will let you add recipients from your contact list - so you just need to click everyone.

To be safe, make sure you have a firewall set up and updated virus scanning software. If you really feel like your email has been compromised then change your password.

I never cease to be amazed at how knowledgeable and helpful you girls really are. I have followed your advice by changing my password and sending out warnings to all my address recipients now that you've explained how to do that as well as notifying AOL. Thank you so very much ladies.
