Help with Restless leg

I have horrible restless leg syndrome. I had twin girls 4 months ago. (through IVF) I had it before my girls were born but now that I had them it seems to be worse. I take my vitamins and extra potassium but it is not helping. I hate to get on a prescription because of the side effects. I need all the good sleep I can get now days. Does anyone have any tricks to help with this?

You might try extra magnesium - it helped me tremendously with that problem as well as muscle cramping. Most americans are woefully low and you're not likely getting enough in your multivitamin. I take extra magnesium during the day and then take the Natural Calm product at nite.

Ibuprophen helps me.

Hi Paige:

My name is Amy White. Congratulations on your twins! My sister had twins through IVF 10 years ago!! Sounds like they are healthy! Sorry to hear about your RSL. My friends husband had RLS. His is now gone since he has been on Monavie! My husband and I are also taking Monavie and have much more energy and have so many other amazing stories of it helping people!! Monavie is an amazing juice, all natural with 19 "super" fruits, one being the phenominal acai berry! Please check out Monavie on line at www.monavie.com You can order some from me. Please call me at 713-301-5734. I look forward to talking with you!

Paige,
Hi, congratulations to you and your husband, your twins are such a blessing.
Regardless the RLS, I too use to suffer from it. I use and promote a product called Rehydrate, it's part of the Advocare product line. Rehydrate replenish your vitamins and minerals, like the antioxidants, potassium, chronium, everything back into your body that we normal lose during urine and sweat. It's a drink, not prescriptive, but it alleviates cramping almost immediately. Plus, an added bonus is whenever the girls get sick, vomiting, high fever, it works million times better than Pedialite. For more, check out www.advocare.com/01086521. My contact info is there if you have any questions. I know this will help and give you a great night's sleep.
Take care,
Cynthia

One thing that helps with sleep - that is calming is calcium. Go to my web site: joannblackmon.isagenix.com and you will find a super nutritional system. I feel that our bodies react to what we put in them. Please feel free to call me 817 267-8293.

calcium and magnesium with dinner (mine are worse at night so I take it late)

Paige,
I feel your pain! I have suffered from severe RLS for years and years. I know there are side affects to the different medications but honestly, I have been taking Requip now for 2 years and IT IS WORTH IT! I can't stress enough the difference in my sleep since taking it. The side affects really haven't been bad for me. If I take it too early in the evening it can make me a little queasy but I take it about 30 minutes before bed with milk and I feel fine.

I didn't realize how little I was sleeping until I actually started sleeping! I thought I was just an irritable person but oddly enough I'm pretty jolly! ;o) Even my kids noticed an immediate difference.

If you do decide to try the medication, go to a sleep specialist. They work gradually to get your body acclimated to the meds and to get the right dosage. Feel free to email me if you want any doctor recommendations. I see one in Fort Worth.

Exercise has always been the best cure for me. I find when I'm not getting enough, I have problems sleeping including RLS.

I recently started using mirapex...I have had no side effects and it seems to be working..talk to your doctor..you need your sleep I would look into it, hugs, Tina

Have you tried sleeping with a body pillow..the long pillows you put between you legs when you sleep?

My RLS seemed to just happen with the pregnancy but what I found relief with was BeautiControl's Therapeutic Bath Minerals. My problems with RLS were mostly at night and it was by accident that I discovered that it worked. I then had to figure out WHY it worked! It has lots of magnesium and calcium from the minerals in the Dead Sea. The bonus is that is smells AMAZING which is why I had it in the first place!! I can relate to you not wanting to take meds if possible so if you would like to give these bath salts a try you can contact me for more info or I am sure you can find a BeautiControl consultant in your town!

Hi Paige.. I have a muscle disorder that I have had since birth and it causes me to have rls..so here is what I suggest..Vitamin E! Also, Have you tried Tonic Water?? It has a small amount of quinine in it which is a natural muscle relaxer. Also here is another natural remedy that sounds alittle off..I copied and pasted it from another website: My mom actually just told me about this and says that it works!
This will sound crazy. on a medical talk show they talked about leg cramps. You use a regular bar of soap, any face soap, small or large. Place it in the bottom of your bed under the sheets. In only a few days it will work. My uncle, dad, and my self use it and it works. No more quinine water. The first night I get a cramp, I change it and throw the old bar of soap away. IF THE REST FAILS WHY NOT TRY THIS. OUR FAMILY SWEARS BY IT AND IT BEATS TAKING ANY PILLS.
Here is the link to that website..it has all kinds of suggestions: http://seniors-site.com/ailmentm/legcramp.html
Hope this helps..
Also, I was hoping I could ask you a question also...
my daughter was conceived through ivf in Chicago and we are looking to possibly have a second child. Would you mind sharing with me who you went to in this area and how well you liked them? Thanks so much!
Amy

I am not sure if restless leg syndrome and sciatica are the same, but the symptoms sound similar. I have sciatica during pregnancy and occasionally when I am not pregnant. Sciatica is caused by the nerves in the lower back being pinched by the spine. It causes tingling in the hip area that can radiate all the way down to your feet. What helped for me was getting an adjustment from a chiropractor. I had immediate relief with one adjustment. Hope that helps!

It may be another mineral you are missing, my doctor said after potassium get more magnesium and calcium. My mom swears that she beat hers by drinking evaporated milk. I have also noticed that the more exhausted I am the more likely to have RL so a nap or rest time in the afternoon may help.

This may sound absolutely silly but I have been reading about off and on for years in the newspaper - Health section, People's Pharmacy column. People have written in saying it works... They say to put a bar of soap under the fitted sheet down were your legs are. Thats it. If it works for you it is cheaper and safer than drugs. Here is a link to what their site says about it.

I do not have RLS, but I agree with the other posts about calcium and magnesium. Also, I have read that caffeine can rob your body of iron, folate, magnesium & other nutrients that play roles in RLS. I used to wake up regularly with leg cramps, and thought I might need more potassium. Then I read that magnesium is like the key that opens the door for potassium. I take the 365 brand Cal-Mag supplement from Whole Foods along with a multivitamin after dinner. Now I hardly ever get leg cramps and I seem to get to sleep more easily at night, too. Good luck!

Hi Paige!
I use "Leg Calm" -natural remedies for Restless Leg Syndrome & Periodic Limb Movement Disorder . Check my website www.zoneofnaturalremedies.com

Use LegCalm To:
1.Treat Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and reduce Periodic Limb Movement (PLM).
2.Eliminate the crawling and uncomfortable sensations experienced in RLS.
3.Prevent night-time twitching, restlessness and muscle spasms.
4.Promote more restful and uninterrupted sleep.
5.Improve circulation.
6.Aid absorption of minerals from the diet, preventing deficiencies and anemia.

Calcium, magnesium and yoga and/or deep leg stretches before bed are my routine. Congrats on the twins! Your body's in repair mode, the extra minerals will help as your cells rebuild and all your parts find their way home.

I had that when I was pregnant and I took extra calcium. I took 2 in the morning and 2 before bed and it helped alot. I hope it gets better.
