My 6mo son has some eczema spots on his fingers. My other son had eczema, as well. Per doctor's instructions, we've always used hydrocortisone cream on the spots that just don't go away. We've never had to deal with spots on the face or hands though. Our 6mo is a thumb (and occasional finger) sucker. So... any ideas on what we could use to get rid of those spots? I'm not putting the hydrocortisone cream somewhere he might lick/suck it off. Ideas?
My daughter and I used to have terrible eczema. We tried everything we could never get it to go away. Finally, a friend told me about all the caustic chemicals that are in so many of the products we use in our home. We eliminated those chemicals and our skin cleared up within a couple of months! If you'd like more info about safer products feel free to message me. :0)
Hope this helps
There is a company that makes some baby eczema cream. They sell it at Wal-Mart. It's in a green/teal box and has Winne the Pooh characters on it. It's really thick, but is natural.
My son has eczema on his right toes and what helps a lot is this lotion called RENEW, by malaleuca. I've tried EVERYTHING and it's the only thing that helps it.
My doctor advised me to use vasolean or baby aguafour (sorry about my spelling). He said it was most important right after her bath but another good time was while she was sleeping, with her nuk. He also said that if left alone it should go away on it's own as the skin toughen up over time. I couldn't just leave it so I used the aquafour and it improved quickly.
Good luck!
I've used Burt's Bees "Thoroughly Therapeutic" on my daughter's eczema and it works better than anything I've tried, and I've tried just about everything, and it has worked great for her and it seems pretty same. You might also try rubbing some of the Burt's Bees Honey lip balm on his fingers.
i suffer from cronic eczema on my hands and it is not fun. getting his fingers wet (by thumb sucking) will make it worse and it will never heal. i recomend pulling baby mitts on his hands (the kind they use so newborns wont scratch their faces) and try the cream under the gloves. vaseline keeps moisture in but it wont heal the eczema.
I have terrible ezcema on my hands too. It's hard because getting them wet (washing, pool in the summer, or in his case, putting them in his mouth) makes it so much worse. You could put socks on his hands especially at night after putting a ton of cream on them, make sure he's hydrated and drinks water often, use a humidifier in his room especially during the winter, and every time you remember during the day, put something on them (vaseline seems mostly safe, and you could really massage it in before you let him play on his own). Even if you know it will only be on for a short time, try to distract him for a few minutes so it can soak in a little before he puts his hands in his mouth. You can try to get him interested in teething toys so he uses those instead, and maybe you can try the socks during the day with a toy and see how upset he is. I can only use two creams on my hands (Eucerin and CeraVe), but since I've been using them, I haven't had a flare-up at all, and my hands are constantly in water! I just automatically use it after getting my hands wet anytime. I have tubs all over my house. I hope you find something that helps! I'm sure as he gets older, lotioning won't be a big deal because he'll have his hands in his mouth less. Good luck!
My now 5 year old son had this as a baby and our peciatrician said to use Aquaphor. (It's like fancy vaseline.) My son sucked on his hands and they were so chapped. You can get Aquaphor at any store in a tube or a larger tub. It's kind of pricey but it does work.
