Hello ladies! I am currently pregnant again with a little boy and I am having a hard time picking out a name. I've searched online a million times, but nothing seems to sound right. Can you offer some suggestions? I don't want it to be an extremely common name where every other boy has the same name as him.... but any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!
I like the names, Max, Preston, Jackson, Quinn, Griffin, Alexander, Ross, Parker and Kennedy
Well, my son's name is Timothy John. My brother's name is Joshua Lincoln. My husband's name is Jerry Richard. I have four uncles named Rocky, Delbert, Tim and Bruce. I don't know their middle names though. And, if we have any more boys, they will be named Isaiah Jacob and Noah Thomas.
I know this may sound kind of weird but look back to your year books. Names that were popular then arent very popular now. Jason, Brian, Joseph, David. Yea they seem kind of common to us because we grew up with a bunch of them but in my sons whole preschool (ages 3-5) there is not one of any of those names! I personally love the name Jesse. You can also find names in the bible. And not just the popular ones!
Good luck
SZ
I can give you advice on what to avoid, if you find that helpful. I'm a teacher and I see lots of names!
Avoid goofy or 'unique' spellings of names. The name will be pronounced incorrectly. It will be spelled incorrectly. The kid will go through school constantly saying "it's JAXON" not "Jackson".
Avoid the super trendy. What looks and sounds really cool now might not be so great at the header of a resume or as an older man. A name that is so so chic and unique might just sound flat out ridiculous in 20-30 years.
I named my first son Monte Glenn, my second child: Cory Shane and I wanted to name my third son: Aaron Mitchell but my husband insisted on naming him: James Burl(jr).
Other names: Ira Francis, Franseco Xavier, Francis Dale, Franklin Dean, Philip Andrew, Stephen Grant, Robert Lee, Nathaniel Wayne, Jerry Scott, Craig Allen, Christian Allen,
Russell Glenn, Russell Timothy, Larry Dean, James Leroy, James Douglas, James Paul, Jason Lee, Robert David, Nathan Roy, Roy Allen. Eli Custer, Levi Andrew. Good luck.
I was in the same situation with my third son. We decided the night he was born, after watching a movie, to name him Riley. I had never heard the name before seeing it in the credits of this movie. We thought he was going to be a girl and had a girls name picked out, so we were in a pinch to find something quick.
We used my mom's maiden name and everyone loves it. Its unique because its a Finnish name. It was also a tribute to my Grandma because this was her first biological great grandson after 8 great granddaughters. We knew she was proud when she just passed away at the young age of 101!
I am all about tradition and we looked through the family trees, you may be surprised at the great names you find!
Some of the less popular names I have heard are: Deacon, Bracey, Hayden, Parker, Brennan, Mason, Brody, Dayson, and Brayton. My youngest was named after our Dr. (Craton) using the last name but changing the spelling. (Creighton) If you find a name you sort of like you could change the ending or beginning to fit your taste. (i.e. Mason to Dayson.) I think one of the best sources for names is the Bible. (Malachi, Micah, Solomon) Don't look in the back of the Bible...just open the old testament and look for the lineage pages, some are REALLY strange but there are some that are sensible as well. Hope this helps. Congratulations on the upcoming birth! P.S. For fun you might want to think about asking the 4 yr. old what to name the baby. When my 3rd. was 4 we asked him what to name the coming baby and he said Ariel. (The Little Mermaid was very popular in our house) We told him that would work for a girl but what if it was a boy. He promptly replied Flounder. (of course that became the baby's name until delivery day) We still laugh about that and occasionally call our daughter (now 14) Flounder from time to time.
Angela,
We were in the same boat as you when I was pregnant with our Sam. We were stuck on his middle name. We wanted something as unusual as his sister's middle name.
We went through all our favorite artists, musicians, writers and looked at both their first and last names.
Well, my husband was - lord help me - seriously interested in the middle name Tyrannosaurus. Don't get me started.
We decided the name Wyeth was a better compromise and wouldn't get him looked at funny during a college admission board meeting. Samuel Wyeth will do just fine now. But I will admit, when he's ten years old, Tyrannosaurus would have made him the coolest kid on the block.
Good luck!
Jenny
During my last pregnancy, everyone said I was having a girl. Well, WRONG! We got a boy! In the scramble for a name, we came up with Ethan for a first name. My uncle Gary had recently passed away in a car crash, and my hubby's best friend, Ray had passed away from heart disease. So we took "Gary" and "Ray" and came up with "Gray". Ethan Gray!
It's a combination of family, friendship, and love.
Not to mention, my hubby has 7 children. With alphabetical names, and "G" was next in line. LOL
Andrew, Brianna, Christine, Destiny, Elizabeth, Forrest, Gray!
What about Connor? I liked that name. I named my son Abel after the Abel in the Bible. And his middle name was after a man that we dearly loved and had stepped up to the plate as a father to my husband. His name is Carlton. So our son's name is Abel Carlton. The only time's I've regretted it is I've been asked numerous times, "Where's Cain?" UGH!
My two boys are named Clinton Joseph and Elliott Russell.
My grandsons are Lance Sebastian and Miles Lawrence.
I love all these names.
Once your baby is here, whatever you name him, you will come to love. Names from the Bible are especially nice, Isaac, Isaiah, Elijah.
Try not to discuss it with friends and relatives, everyone knows someone with the names and will tell stories of what so and so did and then you won't want that name. It's really distracting. Choose the name and keep it to yourself until he is born.
Congratulations on your pregnancy! What is the name of your 4 year old son? Knowing will make it easier for us to help choose something you might like.
My son's name is Elijah David. When I was pregnant the names we had picked were Collin, Ethan, Elijah, Tristan, and Riley. Good luck!!
Hi our 1 year old son is Nicolas Ryan but had i had MY way it would have been Sebastian Cole or Myles. You harldy ever hear those names.
You don't mention if you have any leanings towards heritage or not. That can makes things easier when picking a name and how long your last name is. You generally don't want a first and middle name that will be extremely long with a really short last name or a really short first name with an exceptionally long last name. Those don't always flow right either!
I like some of the older names you don't hear much anymore.
Clinton Shane, Adrian Del, Ashley (Ash)Lane, Blair or Blake with Alan, Chadwick (Chad) Moore, Yancy or York Thomas, Sloan Russell, Quinton Shane, Paxton Oakes, Jared Clark, Darren Chase.
Just a few. I wanted to name a boy Alexander Christian, and a girl Cimmeron Victoria or Tameria Heather. My husband objected loudly because of a 4 letter last name, I have a Stacie Ann and a Sean Patrick instead. Am raising a Cameron Alexander right now so I guess I got that long first name finally (not our natural child, foster daughter left her child behind).
Good luck! I know names can be hard to blend into a person.
A couple of names we liked but didn't pick:
Seth
Jared
about 6 months till my son was born, we were trying to think of any name possible (boy or girl), and nothing sounded right. out of the blue my hubby comes up and says how about donovan (mind you this is not because of the football player..or the singer...lol) anyway. i love it, and i got to choose his middle name (christopher). go with your heart..it will come to you out of the blue :D
My husband's grandfather passed away during my first pregnancy so we named our son after him. My husband's middle name is David and his grandfather's middle name was Nelson so we went with David Nelson.
My father passed away during my second pregnancy. When I found out that I was having a girl I had to find out a way to name her after my father, he did not have a middle name however his first and last initials were K & C so her name is Kacy Rachelle. My husband pulled Rachelle out of his head.
Try not to worry over it too much - a name will come to you when it is time. Who is your favorite actor? Who is your favorite relative? Here are a few boy names that I like....
Dillan
Aiden
Kerney
Congratulations & Good Luck!!
