2yr old son with ezema

I have a 2yr old that has really bad ezema and I cant seem to get it to go away. I took him to the Dr. and he said to put Hydrocortisone cream on him. The ezema is all over his torso like sand paper I feel really bad, it is also on his bottom and it itches really bad. The Hydrocortisone just bleached his skin I am worried that he might have these bleach spots forever... Anyone who is going threw the same? Please help..

Hello RA-
First of all, I am so sorry to hear about yours son's discomfort and skin irritation!

I would highly suggest trying Arbonne's Baby Care products! I have an 22 month old son and from day one I have been using all products exclusively. The diaper cream and body oil are especially fantastic when used together! I also use the body wash and lotion. He has responded very well to these products and the mothers that I have recommend Arbonne's products to have had nothing but successful things to say! One mother mentioned that she no longer had to see the dermatologist b/c the condition cleared up. Another told me that not only did her son's skin begin to clear up within days but he was sleeping better and not running fevers!

Arbonne's products are all natural and botanically based, fragrant free, no animal testing or bi-products. And most of all, products are approved by Pediatricians. My father is a pediatrician and pediatric oncologist and has referred many patients and nurses, who's children have excema, to me b/c he sees the success in using these products and knows that they are truly SAFE!

If you are interested in learning more about Arbonne's products, especially our baby care line, please don't hesitate to email me at [email protected]. I always offer a 35% discount on all first orders and sometimes can even extend the discount to 50 or 80% off!

We also have a wonderful 45-day return/exchange policy if it doesn't work out at well as anticipated.

I hope you do find something that works and your son is no longer is discomfort!

I am in the same boat! 2 of my 5 have very bad exema. We have tried everything. There is a perscription steroid cream that might work for you. They do warn that it can thin the skin, and to use it sparingly. The best thaing that I have found, and believe me, it isn't GReat, is just keeping the skin hydrated with a regular scent free, pure lotion CONSTANTLY. At least 2 or 3 times a day. Honestly, about the bleach spots, I think they never completely go away. I really do feel for you. My 5 yr old has some spots that make me want to cry. When your little guy gets a bit older, like 4 or so, it may help to give him a daily dose of an allergy med, like Benedryl to help with the itching. I hope you find something! :) ps Have your tried yahoo answers? you never know. Someone else may know of something.

Hi R A. My son, who is 7 months, also has eczema. My pediatrician recommended Aquaphor or Eucerin. They both worked well for my son.

I hope this will help your son as well.

take care,
Michelle

hi, my bil has it really bad when it's humid and he just uses petroleum jelly on the spots. i know it is really greasy and messy but, it's a simple & effective remedy. there is a lotion they sell at Target in the infant isle i can't remember the name (of course) but, it's a tube w/winnie the pooh & tigger on it. Nature...something. you can't miss it w/the characters though and it's specifically for excema - it's a lotion w/petroleum in it so it's going to be greasy but not as much as pure petroleum. apply it as often as to keep the areas moisturized. hope you find this helpful.

I strongly encourage you to NOT use that cream. It is full of chemicals that will not really solve the problem and will most likely result in more problems. I have a product that quite a number of people have used to relieve if not eliminate the problem. There are no chemicals (i.e. propylene glycol that DRIES YOU OUT) and no preservatives (i.e. any parabens will alter especially estrogen levels and can give you cancer). (I am convinced that 98% of products on the market DO contain chemicals and preservatives and THAT is the reason we have so many skin issues.)

I have one gentleman who used a combination of my products to ELIMINATE psoriasis that he had for SEVEN YEARS....NOTHING the doctors gave him helped. 1 month of use with my products cleared up his skin. NO I AM NOT A DOCTOR AND CANNOT PRESCRIBE. I CAN ONLY TELL YOU WHAT WORKED FOR ME AND A MULTITUDE OF OTHERS!

You can read my story at www.southwestlifestyle.com and read about the product that finally healed my skin. There is an offer in there to receive a full size body cream (a $14 value) for only paying the shipping & handling fee.

If you are in the Albuquerque area please feel free to call me (505-286-9567)and we can get together!

Heal from the inside. Consider high vitamin Cod Liver Oil (high vitamin is the key). I've heard amazing results from taking it. Here's a past thread on this site with tons of responses that may help:

My 16 month old daughter has eczema really bad on her chin when she is teething, as the drooling irritates it and I use an all natural calendula cream. California Baby makes an odorless cream in a tub, and you only use a little, no side effects and absorbs into the skin instantly. it takes out the itching, irritation and redness immediately. There is also a thicker calendula cream made by Weleda, which is also odorless and without side effects, both of which I have found at Wild Oats Markets. I tried that cream by Aveno and it is only temporary and can only be used sparingly. The above mentioned creams can be applied as needed! When my daughter's chin itches, I will ask if she wants cream and she'll apply it herself as she knows it makes everything go away!

Good luck!

Definitely try healing from the inside out. Does he have any food allergies? Have you tried eliminating cow's milk products? They are a common cluprit. You have to do it for at least 2-3 weeks to know if that might be the cause.

Also, make sure there are lots of healthy fats in his diet. Olive oil, flax oil, fish oil, etc. You can even use the olive oil on his skin. Natural is the way to go! Good luck!

I have had bad excema for 13 years. I've had many doctors give me prescriptions and I've tried most things that people have recommended. I've heard that it never goes away but needs to be managed. Well, a year ago in April, I've started using Renew lotion from Melaleuca and it really helped. I would only put it on at night before bed and it stayed away just using it once a day like that. I found that the symptoms would come back if I missed a night but hey that's better than having them come back the second I washed my hands. After doing this for a year, I missed a week and it never came back. Now I only use the lotion once in awhile. I use it on my kids too. My doctor gave me some as a sample before I knew about this company and noticed a difference but didn't get more. Then my aunt told me about it and gave me more samples. I can get you a small, purse size for $2 if you'd like. I'll order some in my next order. I'm ordering some anyway, so just let me know if you're interested. I don't sell the stuff so I'm not making money but you have to be a member or you'll spend more if you just order it without being a member. You can email me privately with your address and I'll send you some. [email protected]

Oh I am so glad that you ask re eczema.
I have just the stuff for you that will get results. Hydrocortisone cream will not help. It is just a temporary fix. My son had it too and I learned that eczema is an alergic reaction to the chemicals that are in your personal care products that you use on your little guy.
Arbonne has a baby line that is botanically based, pH correct and wonderful. It is called ABC (Arbonne Baby Care) and the wash and lotion clear up eczema. I have had wonderful results with it.

I would love to help you!

Poor little guy. My son has had ezema on occasion and I swear by the Eucerin product Aquaphor. It's like my "Big Fat Greek Wedding" windex!! I use it for everything.

Any time his ezema is acting up, I clean his skin really well and then slather it on. It takes a couple of days but it always clears it up. Good luck and I hope your son feels better.

Hi
My son also had really bad eczema. We tried all the lotions and nothing worked. Hydrocortisone cream worked but we didn't want to use it all the time and it seemed to work only temporarily. Our pediatrician finally gave us an oil that is called Derma Smooth. Wow it worked great. It is a prescription so you would need to see your doctor to ask for it. I can't say enough about it. Now that the eczema is undercontrol we use it only at the begining of flare ups and it keeps it from getting bad. We also use Dreft or All clear laundry soap and try not to bath too frequently. You can get ahead of the flare up just keep trying what works for your son. Also we found that heat makes it worse so by the winter time it should get better. Good luck

Eucerin is wonderful. The best time to put lotion on is after the bath when the skin has absorbed all the water. Apply
lotion or baby oil all over, especially where the ezema occurs. This traps the moisture into the skin. Good Luck.

My brother in law experience this when he was a baby. Understand how difficult it can be. I really do not suggest the hydrocortisone cream because of the bleaching. There are natural creams you can find at Walgreens, pharmacists there can help you with any questions.
Simply keeping the skin dry helps. Unfortunately you'll need to limit play time outdoors...if i can remember my brother in law was always indoors playing. Itchy...yes...I remember him scratching and rubbing. Simply have to keep his nails cut short...may should file them so they are not sharp.
I remember my mother in law always using sensitive creams, washes, detergents...everything in contact with his skin.
As he got older each month it did subside. He did get better and his skin healed great. Think Pediatricians will tell you that young skin will heal very well.
I would watch out for chicken pox. My brother in law caught it with the ezema and it was really bad for him as a baby.
Just give him lots of hugs and kisses! He'll get through it.

You may want to get him checked for food allergies! my neice has extreme exzema and they finnally tested her and shes allergic to many diffrent foods! my husband has Celiac disease and the more i read about celiac the more i see other diseases linked to it as well! you can find a lot of info on www.celiac.com or www.celiac.org goodluck

I always post this response - pure cocounut oil. It has natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It's amazing stuff that is all natural and healthy for you too!

Best,
Colleen

My now 8 year old son also had extreme eczema when he was 2 and 3 years old. My pediatrician had us use Cetaphil lotion and bathe him with the Cetaphil body wash. It is a little pricey but we noticed a big difference within about a week of using it. You can get it over the counter at most places. Hope it helps.

Oh goodness!
I feel your pain! I also have a two year old son with excema. It's an agonizing thing to go through when it's really bad. There is only one thing that has worked for us. I have tried everything, including Arbonne products and things from whole foods. The only thing that works for us is this. First do a warm bath every night. Then as soon as he gets out, put an anti-itch cream over the affected areas. Then cover his entire body with Aquafor! It's really thick and kinda yucky, but when he wakes up the next morning, you will see a huge difference. Keep doing this skin treatment every night until its' under control. Then you can go to once a week. Good luck and let us know what works!

Hello-you might try Tea Tree Oil lotion. I have a customer whose son has ezema and she comes in regularly for another jar. she also uses pure castile soap made from virgin olive oil and coconut oil. She swears that it helps her son. I carry both in my store if you are interested but it should be readily available elsewhere. If not let me know. We also have the tea tree essential oil.

Good luck.
Rosemary
